UK TV - much cheaper than 400€

We have just returned from Condado after getting the PW box fitted and £400 lighter. I watched him fit and install. I wrote the numbers from the box and am looking into sourcing one online.(One thing forgot the piece of paper) Has/ does anyone have the model numbers as we would like it in the kids room also but not for PW price. Once he fitted the unit he was putting in codes to search for channels I know he searched 423 and came up with BBC options. I think if you can get some sort of box that you can force to search certain frequencies it would be a matter of time before you crack codes.

The minimal dish to receive the UK channels is 1.35 CM, but you get interference when raining etc on BBC2, ITV and Ch4 / 5 channels. 1.45 is recommended and when you have the space to have a 1.90m dish fixed to a concrete foundation thats even better.

We have a 1.35 cm dish and although acceptable in the summer, the winters can be a struggle for the ITV & Ch4 channels

the 80cm dishes can only receive the Spanish & some other euro channels but is worthless for the BBC & ITV

Hi Kelly,

Last month Sonatigh posted that the PW box is a WISI OR 51 Combo ( DVB-C & DVB-S ) reciever. WISI are a gernan company and at the time I seem to remember finding one on amazon.de but I couldn't find any further infromation or a supplier of that model anywhere, even the WISI web site doesn't mention it!  Anyone else out there with the PW box?

jus paid the 400 he came wi box 10 min later he went and we had english tele am pleased a no it looks dear but it save a lota hassle

i went to christina in customer services paid the 400 euros a polaris guy came and istalled a box an set it up after about ten mins i had the english channels on my tele it does seem a bit dear but i am happy with that

Do you get a full Sky package with Movies and Sports? Or are there limited English channels?

Polaris must be getting these boxes for 40-50 quid, is there anyone on this forum, who knows any cheaper ways of getting English TV, other than having a big Dish on your roof?

Here's the lis of channels Canales Alhama.doc, but the short answer is no, as you would expect you can only get the FTA english channels.

There are other options available, other people are selling alternate boxes for between €200 to €300 and othere have fitted thier own dishes.

Phil, thanks for the info. I have just been reading up on Freesat boxes (ebay). They are saying plug your box into the wall socket and it will automatically search for all the available chanels. Although most will be encrypted, aparantly there are a number of English chanels available.

The box is £50.00, do you think its worth a try, or has someone already tried this.

I have a digital tuner in my TV and tuned it in over the weekend, there was over 40 chanels but only 2 broadcast in English. Disney Chanel and Sony Chanel I am 35 so not a big disney fan, but the Sony Chanels had some good stuff on, mainly american sit coms like Married with Children, Will & Grace, Becker etc.

Not bothered about full sky stuff, just would like a couple more English chanels to watch.

Nope, sorry but at the moment it will not work.  Unlike other resorts such as La Torre and Mar Minor where PW have provided the full satellite feed into the apartments enabling you to use your own SKY box, at CdA they seem to have done it on the cheap ( to help reduce your fees ) and not put in the equipment to allow this.  Or perhaps it is in but not active so they can sell more of thier over priced boxes!

hi all,    i today have been looking to purchase a set top box from germany, i have found the box by wisi or51d as described in earlier post on this thread , the item is available from many german sites for appx 90euro plus postage

we need to confirm if this is the real deal( correct model) then hopefully can be ordered direct from german supplier, i found it on the wisi site and on kellkoo germany and so on just by typing    "wisi or51d" in search engine  , hopefully we should be able to secure these units for no more than 120euro incl. postage,

Has anyone tried unplugging unit from one property and installing in another, sometimes they will only work in the appt they were sold for as the supplier encodes the signal for that box inthat property  , i also think the model listed is digital terrestrial tuner not freesat so perhaps a german speaking member of the forum can check this out on wisi's site

but if you bought your own box surely you have to pay Polaris to connect it to their cable system - no ? I would have thought the 400e was the cost of the box, the cost of their Engineer to connect it and there will be some recovery in there for the infrastructure they put in place. Or are you saying you can buy the box and connect it up yoursel and totally bypass Polaris ???

All the apartments are pre-wired to the satelite dish, if we had the same box as polaris I dont see why we would need a polaris engineer to call.

Allison and Mark make a good point, we need to try one of these boxes in a neighbouring apartment, if it works it may be worth spending 100 euros on one of these boxes from Germany.
