Siesta Show Webisode 66 - Ex-Pats clean up their act!

In today's webisode Colin strikes out on his own! He meets up with a group of ex-pats and holiday owners who have started up an action group to help clean up the area that they love the most in Spain, the fabulous port of La Duquesa in Manilva, on the Costa Del Sol.

Special thanks to Manilva Autos for their Sponsorship of this dedicated team of people.

Hi all

Just to bring you all up to date, all is now sweetness and light and we have a full green light from the Mayoress to carry on with our efforts.

It would appear that some political mischief was at foot and the volunteers were wrongly identified as part of a plot to discredit the Mayoress. This is complete nonesense as everyone can plainly see. Happy to set the record straight.

You´d think that with 600 people employed by Manilva Town Hall, they could spare a couple of people to clean the port. I find it amazing that with such high staffing levels, so little gets done in Manilva. I watch them stroll in on a morning, do a bit of work then head to the bar for breakfast and then they´re off home at 3.00pm, which usually actually means any time from 2.30pm.

I´m not being political here. As far as I´m concerned, politicians from both sides are scum, as we´ve seen in the UK recently.

Well done to all concerned in cleaning up the port. I did contact the editor of the Resident some time ago to get them to make a noise about the condition of the footpaths and especially the steps.
He replied that it was not up to one organisation but each part of the port is the responsability of each individual Community.
I am sure the Presidents of the respective communities will be pleased that you are doing their work for them.
So keep up the good work and chase the Presidents for money from their budgets.

See you in Cbar soon

Whether intended or not this is good political stuff.

On the practical side is it a good thing for unlikely looking manual workers to volunteer to carry out this work, unsupervised with amateur tools, no protective clothing etc. etc. not to mention insurance in this politically correct world.

Visited the doc the other day who told me that all GPs now have to go on a course to learn how to wash their hands.

Not to mention whose jobs are being hijacked in these economic times?

Still all bored ex-pats should be allowed their fun, shouldn't they???

We go for a brief tour of Marbella old town
This morning we went to check out Marbella old town.  It's the original part of the town before it became the international hub of the Costa del Sol.  The old town is a very pretty part of Marbella and well worth a visit.  By the way, we had some serious sound issues during today's recording so please excuse the poor sound.

We take a brief tour of the city of Malaga, it's more than just an airport
Yesterday the sun was shining (we've had a lot of rain recently) so we headed off to Malaga city to do some filming.  Malaga is a great city which many people never visit.  On a Sunday it's bustling with people and there's loads to see.  Come and join us on our brief tour and see what Malaga has to offer.

We go for tapas to Lo de Andres in Sabinillas
As promised, on Friday night we went to the bar/ restaurant "Lo de Andrés" in Sabinillas for tapas.  We had a great night with some truly excellent food.  I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank Andrés and his staff for their hospitality and fine food.  If you're in the area and need some good food you can find them behind the taxi rank in Sabinillas.  Well worth a visit.

Join us as we head off to Estepona for our breakfast, churros con chocolate!  The sun was shining today but it was quite cold so we needed some hot churros to keep us going.  Watch the churros being made and pick up some Spanish at the same time!
