1st ever post. I was thinking about buying a property on in this area/development but internet searches have turned up the possibility that there is a lack of commercial developments here. And that the "planned" golf course that the agents and developers told me about has not got final planning permission? I also turned up a story in the press that a 40 bed residential mental health facility with an additional 20 day places was to be established in the area. Can anyone out there enlighten me as to the present situation. I did like the look of the area but now having doubts about the longterm resale potential and if in the short - medium term the infrastructure required to ensure my enjoyment of the area and make it attractive to friends /family for rental is present.

Hello Haufdun

Welcome to EOS, you will find us all very friendly in here and will gain vast amounts of proffesional advice and "ordinary" people advice.

We own at Playa Flamenca, a drive away from the area you describe.

I do not know the area in great detail, but have a friend that owns at Entre Naranjos.

From what she has told me, there is no commercial infrastructure that serves this community. They HAVE to have a car, even to get the daily bread and pint of milk. She was told when buying, the usual blurb of shops bars etc., being built, but so far nothing.

I think she regrets buying there and often comes into Playa Flamenca to use the vast array of shops etc.,

I don't know anything about a mental hospital, so can't advise on theat one sorry.

Good luck in your search, please let us all know how you get on and where you decided to buy.

Kind regards

Hi haufdun,

I take it you do mean the Golf Invest development at Entre Naranjas.

There are commercials in the process of being built there and also there will be commercials built on the next phase of villas and aprtments due to be completed at the end of this year.

Fibby is right that there have not been any commercials there for a long time and it has been a pain, this is down to the original builders and now golf invest are on the case it should move on quite quickly.

It will be very nice up there when it's completed as the views and location are spot on.

The golf course i am lead to beleive is owned by United golf resorts and i was told by a resident that they are actually clearing the land now although i have not seen this myself.

Short term this development has not delivered as the lack of facilities have kept the prices down and there has not been a great deal of capital growth, but in saying that if you do add to the fact that there will be an infrastructure of commercials and i have seen the promo for the golf course (when completed ?)it may be something for the long term, you do also have La Finca Golf Course on your doorstep that is a very prestigous development.

If it's for investment you have to weigh up thye risk to reward factor,if it's for residence then let your gut feeling lead you backed by the information you can get hold of.

As for the plans for the mental institution,i have not heard anything as yet but will keep them  peeled for you.

If there is one coming i may pre book after the week i have had!

Regards

Georgia

We looke at Entre Naranjos about 5 years ago.  The only place available (in our price range then) was an end property facing the hills behind.  We didn't buy because the steps to the solarium were outside (scared of the grandkids falling over) and the view was terrible.  It also seemed quite far out with no shops, banks, cafes etc.  We were told they were the process of being built along with a golf course.  We went back in November last year and, guess what?? No shops, banks, cafes etc and no golf course.  I am sure they will be built in time but if we had moved there 5 years ago we would have felt a bit out on a limb.  I was also told that telephones and other facilities were hard to come by but I'm sure that they''ll all be sorted out (in time, like everything in Spain).  Where we did buy only had one pub, two banks and a mini-supermarket (open odd times of the day).

Now we have 9 restaurants, (2 chinese, 2 indian and 5 various) 4 pubs, a 24 hour supermarket and a Mercadona half a mile away.  Oh, and 5 banks.  So things do get done, eventually.

Sorry to disappoint you, JeanSis, but I am not a doctor.  Sorry if you were misled by previous threads but didn't say I was a doctor.  I am a health centre manager (well, a little self-deprecating as I have 3 health centres to run with a total of 20 GPs, 12 nurses, 5 trainee doctors, 4 mental health therapists, 6 midwives and 8 medical specialists, not to mention an admin staff of 24 to look after) so try not to get involved with many sharp things, except words, of course.  I am also their IT manager linking all sites together with hospitals throughout the country.  Am rapidly approaching retirement (on the one hand, can't come quick enough, on the other, God! how did I get this old??)  when I would love to move to Spain permanently.  May have retirement forced on me sooner than I wanted due to nasty builders in Spain not coming up with paperwork to allow me to sell my current place and my new place being built very quickly so I may have to sell up in UK to afford the other half of the house we want to retire to.  The new place is soooo nice (well, the ones close by which are already built are nice) that I don't want to lose it as I don't think I will find anywhere better in the future, especially as prices are going up so much.  If I can sell the one I have at the moment (once I get deeds and certificates sorted out) I will have no problem and will be able to use that money to pay off the one being built.

I still reckon the area around Torrevieja is a dream with a fantastic climate and marvellous beaches.  Love the people and, yes, I do know that crime is a problem but I am not coming out with my eyes blinkered.  The variety in food alone makes up for any little niggles that may occur.

Hope to meet up with some of the lovely people I have chatted to on sites such as this in the not so distant future.

Thanks to everyone for their help and assistance on things as diverse as where to get the best baked beans to picking the best solicitors and getting cars registered (far too much information to thank everyone individually).

Thanks, all.

Hope it all works out for you, JeanSis.  Sounds like you two are about the same age as me and the good lady wife.  Oh, and I was actually involved in a BP survey a couple of years ago.  We reduced the BP on 24% of patients without medication simply by reducing the salt level.  My wife was amongst the "guinea pigs" as hers was regularly round 155/95.  We studied the effects over 18 months and hers is now around 115/85 regularly.  This was purely on being "salt-concious".  She thought her intake of salt was minimal until we used a salt thermometer for liquids (You should have seen it light up on Soy sauce and don't even tallk about cup a soups) and checked the contents on stuff you wouldn't believe.  A slice of supermarket quiche, for example, contained the entire daily recommendation.  A scotch egg had 84% of the RDA and we found most supermarket pork had salt water added to a dangerous level.  Oh, and taking a lot of the posts on this and other sites is guaranteed to raise the levels.....

OOps!!! Sorry Haufdun, didn't mean to hijack your thread.  Montesinos is a lovely place as I found when I went through there in January.  We stopped off for tapas in a lovely place near the centre of town.  It's just the we found the urbanisations a bit off the beaten track and, with no taxi service available. would have meant quite a trek every time we wanted to go out for a drink.

My first post on here too.  I live on Entre Naranjos but only until Sunday when we are moving to El Galan (Macaren IV),  We have had our apartment for 4 yrs now and were also promised the commercials etc.  Although work has started on the commercial centre, it is very very slow and we do not believe it will be up & running this year. As far as we are aware, none of the units have been leased yet, although there is speculation that a supermarket chain & bank are interested.  As for the golf course, yes the land has been cleared and a lot of work is going on on three sides of the Urb.  The hospital will be built as plans have been approved already & permissions given.  We do have a couple of taxis on site, so it is possible to get out & about for a drink and they are quite reasonable re charges.  We do have lovely views here and the local villages ie. Montesinos & San Miguel are nice with the usual amenities, bars, shops, banks etc.

The reason we are moving doesnt really have anything to do with the Urb. we are on, but with 5 children we need something bigger than anything on here has to offer (we originally bought for holiday use only but very quickly decided we loved it enough to move over permanently).  We have lovely neighbours and many friends here and will miss them but needs must............

We are going to keep our apartment here for the time being, as when the commercials, golf course etc are here 'for real' we feel we will be in a better position to sell.  Also, we have somewhere to put the sometimes never ending visitors.
