Hi Everyone

Could someone please tell me the legal age for marriage in Spain?

A Spanish person I know reckons she was married at the age of 12!

Surely this isn't possible?

Thanks in advance

This link   http://www.ageofconsent.com/spain.htm would indicate that at least until 1999, marriages could take place at Age 14 so I daresay at some point prior to that, there may have been a lower age.

The current minimum age for marriage would appear to be 18.

Minimum age for marriage in Spain is 16 years old ( if the person has been emancipated), or 18 years old. Provision 46 of our Spanish Civil Code

I know up to a few years ago it was still legal, with parents permission, for a girl to marry at 12 yrs and a boy at 14. In Benalmadena an English girl of 13, pregnant, married her Spanish waiter boy friend.
