Hi All
We are currently setting things in motion to pack up life in the UK for Spain. Our current Occupations are in Health & Safety and we are trying to research if this would be an option for us in Spain. However we are struggling to find info on the Spanish legislation. i.e. do all the businesses require written Fire risk assessments, are Policy statements required, and if so are the rules and regs the same as the UK

From what I have seen the Spanish have never heard of Health & Safety regulations.

I was in the arrivals at Alicante airport the other day picking up our friends, the place was quite crowded at about 10.30 in the morning.There was a Spanish worker cutting the personel barrier keeping the public back, with a grinder and re-welding it, this was withing feet of the people waiting, he was using no protection neither was there any protection for the public. Any one looking would have had welding flash or could easily bee burnt by the flying sparks.
So no, looks like the spanish don't use HSE rules

We have very strict H&S on our site, maybe this is in the minority but we do have one of the best constructors building the houses so I suppose they have their reputation to consider.

Hi Danman, if you work in HSE some of the things you will see in Spain will scare the living daylights out of you. I work in the UK Oil Industry where HSE is massive nowadays and some of the things I have seen nearly made my eyes pop out of my head.
Good Luck Though - hey just thought - maybe you could bring HSE to Spain and sort them out!

thanks to all of you for your replies i think maybe we need to be over in spain to be able to pursue the idea of opening a health and safety company. it also looks like it could be a lost cause.

Yes at the moment. I've been doing the Alicante to Aberdeen commute for 2 years now. We are heading back to the UK next month though due to some family problems.
