HEllo Everyone,

am going to spend a week in Aguilas in early June.  Have researched quite a bit, but found nothing on restuarants there.

Anyone have any recommendations please.

Thanks

Mia

Hi

In Aguilas our favourite restaraunts are Picolo Mondo (in the second bay). the owner is a lovely man (Guiseppe). They serve pizza, pasta, steak, pork, duck. We have never had a bad meal in there and we have been going there for the last 4 years. The prices range from 8euros to 25euros. The starters are so big you can share them, and the menu is good for kids too. Also Penarubia, on the road between the El Paso Hotel and the roundabout that takes you to the new Commerical centre and Calabardina is good too - very Spanish and a wide menu. the stroganoff sauce you can have on the steak is wonderful! They also do paella for one which is unusual as most restauarants will only do a paella for a minimum of 2 people.  If you want to go English and get to watch SKY TV too go to Los Collados Resort ands try the Oasis Bar (not easy to find as there are no signs but turn left off the Aguilas to Calabardina road into Los Collados Resort and it is in the first building on the right. They have a good mix of English and Spanish clients and serve sandwiches, jacket potatoes, full steak meals, scampi, chips etc etc.
Chiapas is in the small square (turn right by the Movistar phone shop just before you get into the main square. This is a Mexican and the food is good and not pricey.
The chinese on the sea front is also good value for money. In the new Commerical Centre (Aguilas Plaza) by El Hormillo on the main road in front of the cinema, there are some new bars/restaurants and a Wok Buffet which is opening soon (pay 15euros and eat as much as you can!)

In calabardina there is a great little pizza place. The owners are lovely (dont speak English but have menus in English) and the Patatas Bravas (sliced fried potatoes with a hot sauce) are good, as are the ribs, pizzas etc. The house red wine is also very good.

If you want McDonalds or Pizza Hut you're in the wrong town - Please leave immediately!!!!!!!!!!

ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOT NO MCDONALDS OR PIZZA HUT?!!!!

Seriously, thanks so much for taking the time to give us all this information.  We are staying town centre just a few streets back from the promenade and near the square.  Whilst its wonderful trying out new restaurants, a recommendation is also great.

I just wish you hadn't mentioned steak and strogonoff sauce,  rather mean of you, I am working today, and going home to a ready meal, which has now distinctly lost its appeal.

Oh what did you mean when you said 'second bay'?  and just one last question,  any recommendation for Tapas?

Once again thanks from both of us.
Tanny

Hi

There are 2 bays in Aguilas town, the Playa Levante which is what I call the first bay, where the fishing boats, beach and the sports boats are, and the "second bay" which is Playa Poniente. The astle separates the two "bays".

Tapas are very good in El Pimiento, which is to the right off the road that you drive out of the "Plaza de Espana"  main square . Go through the square and take a right turn (walking), the bar is on the left and the restarant in on the right. There is also a new Argentinian restaurant up the same street.

Do you have your own place in Aguilas or just renting for holidays?

Regards

Hi Sunshine

once again thanks for taking the time to reply.  We are just renting for a week.  We usually stay up around Mazarron, Fuente Alamo.  but drove down to Aguilas last time over there and loved it.

If this week works, can see us spending more hols over there.

Hi

You should have a drive into Los Collados Resort, on the road between Aguilas and Calabardina. Oasis Properties have an office there and they have loads of really nice rental apartments, duplexes etc - worth a look if you like Aguilas and want good priced holiday accommodation.
HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY

The Don Juan Hotel, Playa Poniente does a wonderful buffet lunch in the restaurant for 15 euros. They also have a huge sunny terrace where you can have tapas etc.

Gail and Sunshine

thanks both.  Cant wait.  Good tip for the rentals, I spent ages upon ages looking for somewhere.  Good to know for future.

Will spare a thought for you Gail whilst I am sipping and munching on the terrace of the Don Juan next week.!!!

Hi Mia,
We have recently purchased a holiday home not far from Aguilas in San Juan De Los Terreros. You should visit the beaches there they are lovely and you will have a lovely day out.
