Hi all,

On saturday i finally gave in and went for an eye test.

I used the new specsavers in Torrevieja, the eye exam was 10€ and if anyone is a bit nervous about the language barrier dont worry, all the staff are either British or Speak fluent English.

Very good service and very pleasant.

Georgia

Hi Georgia

When do you get your specs & did you ensure you ordered rose tinted lenses ??

Hope the family are feeling much better.

Wonder why Specsavers are charging 10 eu for their eye test when it's free in Spain !

I saw this in the Coastrider so had to think Georgia & 14 others had donated this amount, really.

"We would like to extend our thanks to Specsavers Torrevieja who have just donated €150 to the Cruz Roja Ambulance Appeal."

Hi KP, but I don't believe you have Specsavers in Almeria though ? That's the ONLY ONE that charges , all others ARE free in Spain generally. We were talking about Specsavers.

I'd be interested to have a Specsaver sight test to compare what it is that they are actually charging for. Perhaps they are doing something extra that they don't do in the standard free tests. I can't think what that could be though.

Hi Morerosado, you are correct we do not have SpecSavers in Almeria probably a good thing as well I say, I usedthem in the UK when I didn't know any better and they cost a fortune.

Gosh KP where did you get a deal like that in Almeria?  My last pair (admittedly varifocals and reactolite, but in the cheapest possible frames) cost me over €500.  Not a wonder the test is free!!

I always spend in excess of 200 euros for frames and single vision lenses. I also spend a small fortune on contact lenses.

Hear, Hear Susan.  Lenses horrible price.  I persuade them to tell me my prescription, by devious means, then I order dailies from contactlenses.co.uk and have someone bring them over for me.  Monthlies don't seem such a bad price but I am no good with them as I lose them.

I much preferred dailies. I only moved over to monthlies because dailies were such a shocking price but it is such a pain and I do feel like I have gone backwards. Do you need to send that site a copy of your prescription or do they take your word for it?

They must have taken my word for it the first time - I think if you have an address abroad it is no problem but I think even giving them a UK address for delivery, as my credit card is registered here it was ok.  Some of the online suppliers do insist on prescription.  Go  for it - the difference is MASSIVE!!

I use Salas Opticians in Huecal Overa, I could have had a new pair of very nice glasses complete with new frames and eye test for 65 - 85 euros', one of the many benefits of living a little more north I think!

Ref Specsavers

Never again, as a complete rip off.     Be sure to get a written quote before ordering.     The frames are inferia, i paid 349.00 euro in August 2010 at the Torrevieja outlet for all singing all dancing specs, that was inclusive of a 90 euro discount because i opted for only 1 pair within the offer. I have had the lenses refitted 4 times as they keep falling out and have caused scratches.    The optical vision within the variable lens is very limited. I am using a 20 year old pair of specs for driving as these new specs are not good.

Chris
