New road to Alicante Airport from Altea and North

Hi there,

Happy New Year !

  Has anyone else tried out the new bit  A7 motorway from North of Alicante to the Airport - well its seems ok from the airport going North but coming back from Altea thismorning was a real pain.Needless to say the signs ran out and we found ourselves heading back toward Valencia - not good when you are already late for the plane early on new years day !

Still not sure where we went wrong but anyway it seemed much longer than the usual AP70.Has anyone else out there experienced it and managed to find the right way ?

The one good thing is that their is a garage which is much more convenient for filling up a hire car than the other one beyond the airport.

We have a a villa in Benissa and travel backwards and forwards all the time, more recently using Valencia so last week it was unusual for us to use Alicante..................... Oh dear, same problem - we got from Alicante to Benissa travelling North fine, but going to Alicante like you we somehow ended up on the new road (not sure how) and followed signs that ran out and ended up going back north to where we came.... luckily we had allowed extra time for travel but this is rather worrying when you are renting out your villa to guests and trying to 'confidently' give them directions back to the airport.   Have you cracked it yet? Yes we have cracked it.

Use A7 toward Alicante until the road splits into A7 on the left and A70 towards Alicante and St Joan on the right.  (not sure of the whole name but its St Joan something or other)  Take the A70 towards Alicante and St Joan and that is the original road and a much faster route.

It is comforting that others have had problems witht he new A7 and getting from North Costa Blanca to Alicante Airport. Two friends and I came unstuck on Monday when we ended up in Elche and had to come BACK to Alicante Airport. We were OK timewise but petrol was running low ( return tank empty policy !) so it was a bit stressful.

Glad you cracked it Gilly . We shall try this. By the original road do you mean that originally had exit 72 as the airport ?

Have yet to find a CB Map with the new roads on it.

Hi there,
Yes it did  originally have exit 72 for the airport and  although its the same exit it's now changed to exit 22.
I see they are making changes to the road just outside the airport so no doubt that will be the next hurdle !!!
