If you want to spend more than 90 days in Spain and have a UK passport, you will require a visa issued by a Spanish consulate in UK. For Scotland that would be Edinburgh.

For advice on visas, check the BLS Spain visa site. You will need to show an annual income of €28,800 and have private medical insurance if under retirement age. If looking for a work visa, you will need a guaranteed job offer. 

There are lots of different type visas from digital nomad where you work for a non Spanish company online to the non lucrative visa (NLV) which is just a laze in the sun but doesn't allow you to work visa . As said, check ou BLS Spain visa first.
