Since nobody else has answered, thought I'd offer my thoughts. Only ever been to Torrox once, to look at a property. It was raining cats & dogs, so didn't have a look around and therefore have no idea what it's like really, but it just seemed to me to be a bloody long drive from anywhere else. Personally I'd feel terribly isolated in such a place for any length of time. Obviously everyone has different priorities, but I think a reliable car would be a priority for anyone living there.

Both Torrox Pueblo and Torrox Costa are fine. The Pueblo is very hilly and the Costa which is a long strip along the coast seems to be the haunt of Germans and Belgians. The nearest towns are Nerja, which is a typical Spanish town with a number of seaside coves and a larger beach, Burriana, which is at the bottom of a very steep hill.

Further away is Velez Malaga which has a big commercial centre at the side of the motorway. It also has the nearest public hospital. Most of the admin for the area is based at Velez or at Torre del Mar it's coastal area.

We love the area and have spent many years of holidays there however on deciding to move to Spain permanently we opted for somewhere closer to the airport and with better transport links, so ended up in Benalmadena Pueblo which is 10 minutes rather than nearly an hour from Malaga airport. However with Granada airport now offering flights to the UK the Torrox area now has access to two airports.

Woops! I just realised from the Bantam's post that I made a mistake last night - I read Torrox as Tolox! What an idiot. Completely different kettle of fish. Still, at least my misleading reply to the original post prompted someone else to give a better answer! Torrox Costa is actually quite nice, if a bit spread out. Torrox Pueblo, I have no idea about. Good point about the Granada airport option.
