When we holiday in Calpe one of the highlights is having meals out in the narrow streets in calpe old town.

Are there any similar 'old town traditional areas' within 20 / 30 mins drive of Los Alcazares

Thanks again for any advice given

Kerry

You really do not nedd to venture out of Los Alcazares. The best, by far, is La Tropical, just past the church at the Plaza. Try this or Encarnacion ...superb places to eat and absorb the best of Spain.

Just hoping there were some small villages slightly inland that people could recommend

Due to lack of reponses (except rayinspain thanks Ray for that) can I assume there are no traditional inland villages within 25/30 mins drive from Los Alcazares that people could recommend for a wander and a meal?

Have you tried La Palma or Los belones? They aren't large villages but have good food. Also, there are 2 good restaurants in Apparacida. Not much to see but great food.

Hi

So, on the Val de Sol road from the 3319 - the Garruchal - speciality rabbit and paella.  No village but a great restaurant and nice place to admire the view.

On the 3319 -Val de Sol Restaurante - as above.

Vid Objeda near to Roda Golf next to the Chinese !  Can wander down to the Los Narejos beach after dinner.

Bella Vista on the front at Santiago de Ribera - nice stroll along the prom after dinner!  Run by a very ordinary Spanish family but nice food - in my opinion.

Sandra

La Almazara in Santa Rosalia is fabulous and about a 10min drive from LA. A one-horse town but the restaurant is well worth a visit.

Also La Grajuela by Dos Mares is very popular with the Spanish.

Enjoy!

thanks bradders

another 2 to try!

I dont think 16 days is going to be long enough !!

I think we need to start making a list of restaurants for retirement in just over 2 years

Casa Rebate which is on the outskirts of Pilar de la Horadada and about 20 minutes away is fantastic and has gorgeous grounds with small lake, old church and deli and craft shop also on site. Menu del dia during the week is around 15 euro and there are about 7 choices so you won't be stuck.

La Vid de Ojeda which is in Los Narejos is also excellent and Maria and Fernando speak perfect english.

La Encarnacion which is on the beach in the old part of Los ALcazares is excellent especially the lunch menus althought the restaurant is gorgeous especially off season when it is a bit quieter. The inside courtyard is a must see as it is really quaint.

If you want to push the boat out try- Malvasia in Playa Honda - first class dining experience, much enjoyed by the Spanish and really gorgeous food.

On La Manga Strip there is a great seafood place called Escuela de Pieter (not 100% sure of spelling) which is where a lot of the boating crowd dock on a Sunday and paddle in for lunch. Really great atmosphere and great food.

Enjoy your trip

Mandy

thanks mandy for your advice

With regard to  Escuela de Pieter would we be able to get the ferry across the mar menor  to Thomas Maestre marina and be able to walk there?

No I think that you would need to drive over to it. We have been by boat and driven over and it is great - fabulous atmosphere and great food. Mostly Spanish clientele so you know that the food is good!

One of the best eating experiences I have had (ever) is in Pilar De Horradada - just up the road.

The restaurant is El Gallego.

It is a Steak/Seafood restaurant and offers (in 2013) the El Gallego fillet steak, and you get two succulent fillet steaks for that!

Regards ... Gerry

Hi,

There is a very good Spanish restaurant at Los Alcazares, called Ramón, on the main road. Many Spanish people go there and they have good quality.
