Hi, can anyone tell me if it is possible to by Kindles in Spain, and if so would i be able to download books on to it without a problem? Someone told me I should buy it in England, but not sure why? Any info would be appreciated.

Yes, you can buy the kindle from amazon Spain. Just set up the location as UK with an amazon account and no problems. You don't need a UK address, just set the location to UK under settings. If you put Spain, all the books offered will be in Spanish.

Thanks for that but I change location to UK in settings where .. the settings on amazon account you mean or settings on the Kindle? Sorry for sounding thick but not very technical. Thanks again, Jane

When you buy the Kindle, you have to put in the settings. FOr example, time, date etc. It also asks for language and location. It is here you put the location as UK. It doesn't matter if your address is jn Spain, just the location bit.
If you get any problems, Amazon has a brilliant help desk who will talk you through things.

I recently was asked by a friend to show her how to use a Kindle, which she bought in Spain.
After playing with it to work out what to do, I downloaded some free books for her.
When I got home as a try out, I downloaded kindle on my PC, and a couple of free books.
I found that if I showed I was in Spain the books which were free in UK were not free in Spain. I just changed the settin s back to UK and they were free free again

i bought a kindle from amazon spain and i can only
dpwnload and buy books from the spanish amazon site, i
also download free books.
if you loook at the titles you can get thousands of books in
english to buy and also a lot are free.

Just found out that Kindlke have limited the 3G to 50mb per month. Done unilaterally and with no notice! They say they are entitled to do this. I disagree and will be taking it up elsewhere.

To change countries, log into your kindle account on the web. Select the manage my kindle option. Down the left hand side will be country. Press that and the country comes up. If it says Spain, click change button to the right of it and select united kingdom. You will then access the kindle.co.UK instead of kindle.es. It doesn't matter if your address is Spain, it's the country location that matters. Of course, you can still use kindle.es if you want to order goods. Your debit/credit card will be charged no matter where it is.

automatically translated into english, but it will
not do this on my new laptop, so I have
just been onto amazon es to try and follow your instructions
but cannot do it as it is all in spanish

Log onto amazon.co.UK instead. All the same company and account details. Using .es or .com will automatically put it into Spanish due to your I/p address. If you get any problems, ring amazon helpline and a nice lady with an American accent will do it for you for free.

Also, if you use Google chrome as your search engine, there is an option to translate all Spanish pages into English automatically.
