Late payment of IBI

Hi,

I haven´t paid my IBI bill yet this year for apartment, basura etc., as I have not been able to. How much are they likely to charge me extra for late payment?

I think the surcharge is 5%

This from the internet. I would think this is a more realistic estimate:-

I've been informed by my Spanish Solicitor that if you submit a late payment for local rates (inc rubbish rates) the penalty fee is 20%??? for Javea Town Council.

No - initially trhe recargo (surcharge) is only 5% plus costas EUR1.20

Also they don't tell you to pay you have to go to Town Hall and sort out!

Hi, thanks for that, yes I am aware I have to go to the town hall (God, we wouldn´t expect an actual bill would we??), but just wondered how much they put on as I have previously paid quite early. And, as the ayuntamiento are going through a ´make it up as you go along´ stage, thought I better check I am not going to get a horrible shock.

when you are there you should fill out direct debit form

I  suppose it varies between councils but we usually pay a 'fine' of 60 euros on an IBI bill of 900 euros regardless of how late it is. If paying late a visit to the town hall is necessary to get a new bill that inlcudes the fine.

As far as I am aware it's like all unpaid taxes and the surcharge depends on how many months late you are and eventually it gets to 20% surcharge (recargo) and Interes demora (statutory/legal interest).

Yes have to say we pay by direct debit!!!!!!   I can remember the first time we had to start paying the IBI the post lady came round hand delivering the bills in November.  We did receive the bill but we had just paid it I think it was a few euros extra we was charged,
