Yet another case of one law for them and another for ‘the little people.’ Despite the public being promised greater transparency and details of the wages and assets of parliamentarians in Spain, it has been revealed that the deputies have not had to declare the value of their homes. The form, which the parliamentarians will be required to fill in, has been released to the press. The VALUE of their property does not appear. They will only have to declare the type of property, its characteristics and the province in which it is located. The addresses too are secret. Somewhere in Valencia, dear mother!

As Robbie Burns surmised:

Here's freedom to him who would speak,
Here's freedom to him who would write;
For there's none ever feared that the truth should be heard,
Save him whom the truth would indict!

Latest news: 67% of polled business leaders in Spain want next March's elections brought forward. 69% doubt the gvernment's ability to manage the crisis; only 22% approve of spending cuts   ...  and for the first time in living memory more people are leaving Spain than settling here.

Mike I could write a book on their first 6 weeks but of course most people wouldn't be interested. Their main pledge was that every area would have a democratically elected representative but within 48 hours Antonia Moreno had put 2 of her people in place without consulting anyone, one of them at La Aparacida where Pepe Aniorte had been el Alcalde for 26 years. The main sticking point between all 4 parties was the wages, CLR wanted a 30% reduction which resulted in an 8% reduction but in reality as they now employ more people the bill has actually risen by 23,000 euros. To be able to speak with Bob Houliston you have to complete an application form and hope. After 3 days of trying by phone and e-mail we had to go to the town hall and demand an answer. All of this is because the British wanted to take over the coast but did they realise that all the towns and villages in the area have had their lives turned upside down Most of the residents have never heard of Claro and feelings are running high amongst a lot of the Spanish. I would think that a lot of people who think they have been so clever to upstage Spanish politics are the same people who left the UK because the immigrants were taking over. It is the same as the Cala Mosca campaign. Yes it is a shame that they are going to build on it but planning permission was given in 1992, long before most of the residents even thought of coming to live here but then they expect to be able to arrive and change things to how they would like them. This is after all Spain not UK, yes we spend our money here but we don't do it to help the Spanish, we do it because we want to take advantage of this lovely country.
