Why are printing prices in Spain so absurdly high? It is something I know a little about; overheads, material costs, procedures, equipment. Like much else printing is far cheaper and simpler these days; no typesetters, binder, proof readers etc.

Prices are 60 to 100 times the value of the card and ink, as in business cards. 1,000 x 38-page booklets in the UK about £400. When I priced here €1,800 yet the costs are similar! My lady client took her order to the UK.

It is not so long ago since a UK publisher friend used to get his printing done in Spain. It was that much cheaper. Maybe I am knocking on the wrong doors?

That was also my experience and I felt the price was loaded if you spoke English!

Also very slow turnaround.

It's just does not seem to be competitive.

Don't know what sort of priniting you want, but Vistaprint is Worldwide and reasonably cheap. If you can put up wth their promotional emails, they're worth a look.

Yes, someone else suggested the Vistaprint option and I went for it. I must say I was well impressed. I would say the company is to printing what Ryanair are to air travel. One needs to persevere and pay attention when going through the ordering process but it is easy when you know how. One has to negotiate a maze of options, choices, special add-ons and other inducements. It never tells you what it is adding up to, only what you are saving. Much of it is very tempting; presentation and price.

I got there in the end and had a smug smile of satisfied self achievement on my face. I now await 500 beautifully impressive business cards, with some stickers for €2.35. I hadn't ordered these but couldn't be bothered pressing the back button to see where they had crept in. The total price; taxes and delivery - and unwanted stickers; a few pence over thirty euros. Not bad.

Since I have been ducking spam on all kinds of confirmation and further inducements. Would I recommend Vistaprint? Yes! Marks out of 10? Let's say 8/10 for their state of the art marketing, which just might have the edge on Ryanair's. Could we therefore describe Vistaprint as card sharps?

PS I do think that this kind of service will prove to be the death knell of more conventional printers. The joys of DIY on-line 'when the kids are in bed'. Sheer bliss. Not even a stamp required.

I have to agree with the comments re Vistaprint as ive used them several times & even with complicated grafix i ordered through freefone to America was then transfered to a grafix designer in Jamaica who spent a fair bit of time getting my presentation to look exactly how i wanted it still all on freefone i then signed the order off & decided to go for there normal 21 day delivery at no extra charge & 3 days later my order which was leaflets printed in full colour on glossy paper arrived by courier & i discovered that all Vistaprints EU orders are printed in Brussels. A great cheap service & before anyone asks im nothing to do with Vistaprint other than being a very happy cutomer.

I used Reklame in Sabinillas for my business cards and found the price to be very competitive with UK printers.

When I tried to use Vistaprint and other on-line printers for the card design I was using, which I had deigned myself with Business Card design software, and the card would not fit into their final proof.

So I used Reklame and the card was perfect and was exactly as I designed.

I know on-line printing companies are good, and cheap, but quite often in life you get what you pay for!

The solution is definitely here:

** EDITED - Against forum rules **

They do what they say on the tin - great prices, great quality, great service and it's all in English. And it's delivered to anywhere in Spain.

I realise I'm biased as I work for the company - but it also means I know what we're like and Vistaprint isn't a patch on us!

Rubbish! These type of business cards are on 200gsm card and are of no quality, to stand out your cards need to be 400gsm any proper print shop will not supply bus cards on 200gsm it says your company has taken the cheap option. Of course if that's what you want???

Hi juanfortheroad,

Please get your facts straight before publishing lies about our company. It doesn't say anywhere we've taken the cheap option, Our standard business cards are printed on 307g paper, not 200g paper. I agree that 200gsm would be rubbish, and that's the sort of thing Vistaprint might offer, but we have never printed business cards on 200g paper. We're a 'proper print shop' and we do things right... we also offer the option of 400g paper, and if you know about printing you'll know that 300g is standard and 400g is a thicker (slightly more expensive) option. So not sure where you got your information from? Seems to me you should get your facts right before slating our company - I wasn't coming on here to be criticised, I didn't insult anybody, I saw the thread and offered an alternative. Have you ever worked with us? I'd say not as all our customers are very happy. I don't know who you are but I don't think it's very fair or helpful to give bad press to a business you obviously don't know anything about and have no experience of, especially in these hard times.

No you get your facts straight. Did I once mention your company? No, I was referring to online cheap mail business cards which are below standard and give a bad representation of your business. I have been printing and selling business cards for 20 years, standard Is 350gsm litho. Anything less can go through a digital print machine offering lower quality thus cheaper price. That's why companies are distancing themselves from this and opting for 400g board. Showing your not a fly by night company.
Regards.

Hi Juanfortheroad,

You replied to the post that I put on a blog that hadn't been posted on for 2 years, just 3 hours after i posted on it, to say that 'these types' of business cards are 200g and what I said about our company was rubbish - so yes, I'd understand that you were referring to our company.

Anyway, I'm not going to argue with you, you can have your opinion and you can say that litho is standard which up until a few years ago would have been true, but perhaps you're stuck 20 years ago? Modern digital presses turn out excellent quality, we use both and we often find the digital press exceeds litho in quality, and it certainly churns out more vivid colours than a litho machine.

Using digital presses doesn't mean you're a fly by night company, it means you can turn small print runs around very quickly and affordably for the customer.

It's a shame you feel so aggressive towards the blog, I don't see the point of setting out to try and damage someone else's business. But I won't get into a long argument about this with you on here!

I was interested to read about the compaints re printing costs in spain. I may be able to help. I specialise in providing printing services to small businesses in spain. Just put costa blanca print services into google to find my website. I started this about a year ago when i recognised the high cost of printing and also the lack of reliability in terms of timescales. As an example i print 5000 a5 flyers full colour both sides for 99 euros and with free delivery - delivery is on average 7 working days. I am slowly picking up customers and these are becoming repeat customers. So please bear me in mind - i can provide details of customers and businesses that have used my services already. regards Andy
