I've had an email from Jet2 today, asking me to complete a survey about San Javier airport, and it's closure.  Has anyone else had an email?  They wanted my response about which aiport I would use in the future, and how many times we travel out to Murcia.  I opted for all the Corvera answers, as I hope it will be a busy international airport, giving us more choice and value for flights.  Anyone else have some news, or taken part in the survey?

Thanks

I think it may have been AENA itself instigating the survey or perhaps local groups, not sure.

Many locals would like San Javier to remain open, there really is NO demand for international or indeed many more flights, more accommodation to be found nearer Alicante with 15 times the passengers to MJV.

Corvera will take a good 35-40 Minutes from Roda or LA compared to 10 to MJV or 60 to ALC.

As there is far less holiday Home accommodation or hotels near us, why on earth would anyone subsidise flights into Corvera so ALC likely to be more competitive pricing for the sake of 20 mins more travelling.

Where is the sense or demand for Corvera coming from?

No Paramount, if there ever was.

If AENA close MJV and they can’t make money out of Corvera, they could retreat all back to ALC, makes far more sense for them long term.

Lots of updates on Murcia Today.com and also on Roda and Around FB groups.

I can’t understand people not wanting it to open. Why would a Airport stay open for Roda, there are other towns and Resorts nearer to the new airport. It’s not all about Roda.

Whether IRS 25 or 35 mins doesn't really matter. The golf complexes and LA can't sustain an airport, it needs to serve the huge population base around villa martin and torrevieja ..... I suspect those in that northern area of the current San Javier hinterland will head to alicante rather than corvera which for them is a longer flight. R

I filled a form in at San Javier airport a few days ago. It was asking about facilities, check in process etc etc. I gave San Javier a glowing report and I hope that Corvera never opens.

I agree Casagooner, never going to be enough hotel or mass accommodation to justify a new airport.

Far easier for tourists to fly to ALC with huge choices of tourist centres both North and south.

Only possibility is Cartagena becomes a cruise departure point which could encourage flights in but this could take years.

ALC will be able to offer more flights and better prices for a considerable time and Jet 2, Ryanair and EasyJet won’t mind where they fly into as long as they get good deals.

ALC with over 12mill passengers a year still has room and facilities already in place.

Just because MJV will close and Corvera May Open doesn’t necessarily mean its viable or sensible.

We are not bitter, just discussing the rationale.

Is that ok with you?

Just for the record... I certainly don't need to get over anything, but thx for the advice. I have happily used alicante ... and on one mad occasion Valencia.... to get to Roda. As an ex-lorry driver, I like driving.

Time will tell, but I suspect corvera is being opened because it was unwisely built and it has to open to avoid the awkward questions of "who thought building an international airport in 'Boston, Lincs',  was a good idea?"

R

cheers richard (happy after a 5-1 win)

I’m sure a lot of people on La Manga will want San Javier to stay open and surrounding areas.

i personally would start to use Alicante if San Javier ever closes and not use Corvera, a straight 50 min journey down the motorway is so easy anyway.

Yes your right Hugh_man this is a Roda Golf forum so why would anyone on here who has property on Roda want longer airport transfer times?

Lets look forward to 10min transfer times this year at least.
