Banks

When we first bought on Roda (aprox 10 years ago) we opened a bank account with Barclays Spain. we didn't pay any charges, had a local branch with english speaking staff, so no problem.

Then the bank was taken over by La Caixa bank. They moved our account to Cartagena, started making charges on our account and when our credit cards and debit cards expired told us we needed to re apply. When we asked if we could move our account to a La Caixa bank nearer Roda we were told we needed to close our account and re-apply at the new bank, even though they are both La Caixa banks.

This is just the tip of the iceburg with the problems we have had, and we've come to the conclusion they don't want our business, so are now looking for a new bank.

With this in mind can anyone recommend a decent bank.

We use our apartment in Roda as a holiday place, so mainly use our  bank account to cover mortgage payments and direct debits. .  Not sure if you live over in Roda.  We bank with Banco Popular in San Javier.  They've always been good, but I understand they have been taken over, so I'm not sure if anyone else can help.  Sorry to hear the problems you've had.

Try Sabadell in Los Alcázares, La Caixa are one of the worst of a bed bunch in Spain I'm afraid.

we have banked with Caja Murcia Bank for 12 years , in Doloris, which is just up the road from Roda they speak English and are very helpful, I'm able to access accounts through online banking, they are always prompt in replying to any emails.
