Hi, I am sort of in the process of buying an Eagle townhouse but have not yet placed a deposit but I do have a big reservation on if I am investing wisely or not as there does not seem to be answers available to many questions that I pose.

Is there a plan as to what is happening at the resort regarding development as I don't want to be left with a property that is forever a building site with some home's being left empty to go into disrepair

I believe that a developer has bought some of the homes but not all and is selling them off at a very reasonable price but what happens when they are all sold do they just pull out with a nice profit and go or are they going to invest in the resort and buy more properties to sell???

I work damn hard to earn and save money for a nice home in my retirement and don't want to risk having a property that is forever a building site that I cannot sell and is still isolated and has no amenities in 10 years time.

I cannot afford to take a risk with my money so do I opt for an established area like quasada or villamartin

These are just some of the questions that keep me awake at night so any advice would be really appreciated.

The developer Urmosa didn't actually just buy the properties from the bank but also the land around for the potential of developing the area and the first thing that you should do is visit their website to see all of the developments that they are building and selling

They have spent a fortune on the golf course getting it back into condition, new buggies, staffing and of course the biggest expense, the water to keep the course going, this really isn't the action from somebody that is cutting and running

They have purchased more properties and they will be relleasing more properties but only when they have completed the works on the ones that are already sold, a sensible approach in my view, in fact the developer had bought I believe every property that was available via the bank at time of auction

Where else can you buy a towhouse for €70k but always consider that first you should buy a property that you want to use and enjoy, investment factor is secondary

Hi Drumstick, while on holiday in September last year we visited Sierra Golf a couple of times to view some of the houses .

We met with two of Urmosa,s representatives, they told us the plan was to complete 20 properties, sell them and complete another 20 sell them and repeat the process thus limiting any chance of them being left with a load of unsold properties.A sound plan. Therefore if the building is continuous and the urbanisation grows, more amenities will be available shops and restaurants etc.

As inspector homes has said in other threads he has sold a lot of properties on SG and has a waiting list of other potential buyers, so it would appear that the plan is working.

Any purchase has its risks ask anybody who bought property before 2007 and tried to sell it in 2010.

As the saying goes you pays your money and takes your chance.

Good luck whatever you decide.

We are probably biased as we own an eagle on sierra golf. Loved the house in 2006 when we began the process and have enjoyed  eight years of  holidays there.   It is a risk as any investment but I believe sierra golf is on the up. Urmosa in less than six months have shown a commitment.

It is going to take a number of years we originally thought ten years in 2006 but I do believe once people start completing there will be new life in the whole of the site.   You will get a house for more than half price...  and they have so much potential with not only the roof terrace but the basement  our house can sleep 8 plus.   So all the family can enjoy.

Go try the site out there are so many plans.

We have spent time there with all the three places open and when there originally was none.

The area is amazing and when we explore we find fantastic places.  We plan whatever happens to be there more when we retire  in few years.

Weh have met some amazing people and made friends.

We will be urbanized .

Thank you for all your comments i may have been over cautious perhaps but i just did not feel that when my retirement came that i would be moving into a fully functioning community with all the amenities that i need. I must say that all the residents of SG that my wife and i spoke to were very happy there but no one could put a timescale on when they thought it would be finished.

I ended up buying a 3bed townhouse in Algorfa which has everything that we require including a comunal pool, it was a little more than the eagle but was furnished with high quality furnishings and in a small but very close multinational community and with a very Spanish feel.

Good luck to all that live on the SG resort we will keep a close eye on its development and hope sincerely that it develops into a nice and convienient place to live.

I posted a comment in 2016 regarding buying a property in Sierra Golf and have just visited the site in October 2017 to check its progress and it seems as if my worries were founded. It has now been nearly 2 years since we were considering a purchase there and the place is still a building site. Thank the Lord i did not buy one but decided on a nice townhouse in Montemar  Algorfa.

The homes on Siera Golf are really nice but the actual urbanisation is quite remote with no local shops or amenities. It still looks a little like a deserted half built urbanisation but you need to visit it with an open mind as everyone's expectations are different. The place was not for my wife and I in the current condition but given time it may develop into a lovely place but if it does it will in my opinion be quite a few years.

You are right of course, SG is not for everyone. However, for the hundreds of owners, either full time resident or part time, it is far from remote. It is actually a 6 minute drive from the town of Balsicas, with La Tercia and Roldan probably a few minutes further. In any of these you will find Banks, Solicitors, butchers, bakers, supermarkets, restaurants, coffee shops, hairdressers, Greengrocer, petrol station ,bars,to name but a few.
If however you run out of Tea bags, coffee, milk, bread etc, you can get these on the SG site at The Blue Palm, which is a bar, restaurant, swimming Pool and you can get a full English breakfast without leaving the site. The golf course is a 5 minute walk (with your trolley), where development is continuous and ongoing.
The Blue Plam and the Spanish Bar are open daily and, apart from food and drink, have Quiz nights, Bingo, Music evening, Race evening  etc.
Going off site to shop is part of the life, as you can combine this with a trip to one of the many coffee shops with freshly baked cakes, buns, to be enjoyed sitting outside in the sun.
A 15 minute drive will take you to the town of San Javier, with it's shopping Malls and Iceland, Aldi and Lidl.
The golf course is a 5 minute walk (with your trolley), where development is continuous and ongoing. However,if you are not a golfer, then Sierra is not a place you would look for a home.
As suggested by Drumstick, visit with an open mind is the solution.
