With refrence to the recent news on Paramount/Covera this bloke seems to have a downer on any good news for the region
The regional spokesman for the IU-Verdes in Murcia, Jose Antonio Pujante On being asked about his opinions on the Paramount Pictures theme park projects at Alhama de Murcia, he reminded that 'nothing had yet happened' at the park, and held up the Warner Bros park in Madrid, and Terra Mitica park in Benidorm of similar unsssuccesul projects. He also reminded that the Arab investors that the promotors of the park had promised, were still not forthcoming and neither had the first stone being laid.He referred to the project as being "just a name" and that to date it had been "a Pantomime"
With regards to the region's airports, Pujante criticised the waste of public money in developing the facilty at San Javier airport so recently, when plans were already at an advanced stage for it's closure. He also referred to the 200 Million Euros that the region had invested in the new airport at Corvera as "a risk", pointing out that similar projects at Castellon and Ciudad Real had been unsuccessful.
He also spoke of the recent expansion of nearby Alicante's El Altet airport as being a threat as a direct competitor of Corvera.

I have huge admiration for your optimism George, it seems to know no bounds! ;)
While I'd still consider myself very much in the 'glass half full' camp, I'm waiting until it's actually built and the first paying customer is admitted before cracking open the champagne. There's still a very long way to go and many hurdles to cross, and anyone who thinks that it's already 'in the bag' are kidding themselves on IMO.
I can fully understand why those involved in selling property are wanting to hype it up to the full and be as optimistic as possible, but for the rest of us I think it's best we keep our feet on the ground and our fingers crossed. I hope that doesn't come accross as being negative because it's definitely not the intention as I still remain hopeful, maybe even cautiously optimistic. But I take the opinions of those with a vested interest in this venture being a success with a large dose of salt.

Yes I would agree with Cappielow, I have always thought the theme park will happen as it makes complete sense and now at the bottom of a recession is the time to do it as costs will be less than half of what they would have been 4 or 5 years ago.
However, timescales of laying bricks in May are just PR gone mad as this will never happen and certainly not in Spain. There will be a huge amount of major infrastructure and ground work to be done before anything can be built and that is the expensive bit where major financiers have to be signed up.
I for one am looking for some significant anouncement from a major civil engineering company who will be involved in the work - and I am not talking about Polaris World as they are clearly no longer able to generate the resources and workforce to deliver this type of project - credibility shot!
Once this happens and ground work starts, expect the first brick to be laid about 6 to 12 months thereafter.
The signs are there though - interest locally in property for sale has increased and companies are now gearing up to cope with a change in demand for their services. Interesting that an English owned furniture company previously based in Aguilas called Furniture Plus has consolidated its business and relocated to Puerto De Mazzaron in the old Don Bricolas DIY store - the one above the Mercadona supermarket. They look good and worth a visit especially for those now looking to set up home on CDA.

The use of the phrase " the first brick" I am sure is just a mataphor for the begining of construction. I'm sure Senor Samper did not intend this to be taken literally. On the other hand they may lay a ceremonial brick to celbrate the start of construction for PR purposes.

Has anyone seen any more news of this proposed theme park? this piece is from Nov 2011
."..The Peñarroya group, headed by Cristobal Peñarroya announced proposals to build what they are claiming will be the largest Theme Park in Europe, the park plans to cover an area of 250 hectares, and will be dedicated exclusively for rides and attractions, as opposed to having facilities for business delegates. The project, which will be built in Malaga, Andalusia "will come backed by a U.S. cinema corporation with experience with amusement parks", said the group owner, Christopher Peñarroya."
I think Paramount Park is planned to be 108 hectares. It seems alot of the reports about Spanish theme parks concentrate on the fact they don't seem to have made money or been successful in the past, although Paramount Park appears to be offering a variety of facilities and services that could avoid that problem. But, it seems unusual that two parks could be developed within a few hours of each other,.

Yes I take the same opinion, the owner [ or administrator ] of the the aditional plot of land appears to have got a little greedy, realizing they are sitting on a potential "nest egg" they have tried to cash in, so as long as IRM are reasonable its possible that CDA2 may have legs yet !

Well to be fair the administrator may under an obligation to get the best price possible forn the land, so might not be matter of being greedy.
And I'd be happy if CDA1 got finished.
As i understand it they still want to finance the project through selling the "lifestyle" plots or whatever they refer to them as...basically the services and shops. So until they manage to do that I'm still only 50/50 on anything happening.
But I would think that when corvera opens that might help things.

CDA2 has no chance of being part of Paramount. They had their chance years ago and blew it big time by asking way too much p/ M2 as it appears to be happening now.
Fingers crossed Paramount actually gets built, not just started but finished and may be the new airport actually opens 2013/14/15 someone may just start to consider CDA1 might be worth "a chance" of investment.
Who know's. There's nothing certain in any of this............... only that Spain is heading further into the ****.
