 Paramount Theme Park Delayed:
The purchase of the land where the new Paramount Theme Park and Lifestyle centre will be built has been delayed for another month, after the notary discovered that several plots of land that were included in the total land area had existing loans on them that needed to be first repaid before they could be exchanged. The company Proyectos Emblematiocos, of the Region of Murcia, (Premursa) which is led by Jesus Samper have been forced to delay the exchange of land for at least one month. 
According to Jesus Samper, the reason for the delay is not that the company is short of funds but just that several plots of land still have existing loans on them that the owners need to repay before the land can exchange hands. In an official press release Premursa indicated that the purchase has had to be delayed but that within one month they are expected to be able to pay €15.812.851; which should enable the transfer of the land located in Alhama de Murcia into the company's name. According to Jesus Samper, whilst the signing of the land has been delayed this shouldn't really delay the opening date for the Paramount Park and Lifestyle Centre. The first stone is still expected to be laid on the project in May and, at the moment, the final touches to the designs are taking place. Jesus Samper did admit that the financing side of the project was taking a little longer than usual due to the economic crisis but they have managed to secure the funds.

Those loans could easily have been repaid by the solicitors with the proceeds of the sale.

When you sell your house, you dont repay your mortgage first then sell it. Your solicitor repays your mortgage company from the sale proceeds.

Sounds a bit like an excuse to me, unless the law is very different in Spain?

I'm with Darren on this one, as a fellow advisor this seems very strange.

I'm also a bit concerned that they've maybe exploited a technicality to buy themselves an extra month to find investors. Hopefully not and it's just a minor hiccup as they claim, but I'm taking nothing for granted.

Maybe the deal was that all the land was to be mortgage free as they may not be dealing with individual sellers but a representative of the block of lands.

No doubt we will see in a few weeks.

10 Euros, says no deal is signed today! Probably get another delay/excuse like last month. 

They wont want to announce its not happening, as this would be bad for the region.

Does anyone share my scepticism that the statement '20,000 direct jobs will be created' is a bit wide of the mark?  That's an army of people even on the scale of what is eventually planned.  Maybe I'm wrong and I hope I am, but isn't this a bit optimistic and down to developers trying to sell the project?  

Signing at the Notary is supposed to take place tomorrow, 7 March.
