Hi all,

We have had an extractor fan fitted in our bathroom, as showering creates alot of steam/ condensation and the vent is usless, there was no tiles removed or major work involved, and it works of the outside bathroom switch.

Its got rid of the soaking wet floor and tiles and everything else that got wet, we still get some steam but nowhere near as much as before.

If you are interested i can pass on the details to you.

Regards

Nikki

Not sure how big a problem this really is. We stayed in one of Debbie Paytons apartments on J12 last week and found that if you leave the door slightly ajar the steam was no big deal and cleared really quickly.

hi

just got back late Monday 19th january. heard about problem with condensation in  two bedroom apartment.

so i went exploring and opened the vent in the bathroom above the shower  the water was lying on the ceiling i observed a large pool. I reported this to PW as i believed the roof was leaking but this was not the case as a water test was conducted by PW.

PW  price 257 euros to have a electric fan fitted (fan + fitting). i believe this fan is essential if you want to avoid problems in the future.(damp water marks etc)

PW have not connected this vent to the ducting which should be done in the building world, i believe the ducting to the vents in the chimmey  are in place however the flex to the fan is not. this has been done in my apartment now as i requested the ceiling to be ripped out. This then give me access to the duct and to feed a electric cable to the fan from the main light in the bathroom. This means whenever the light comes on, the fan is also on. No more condensation, i have photos of problem i will try and down load them shortly.

i purchased a electric fan 32 euros this may  be proved to be money well spent.

Ian

Hi Ian

We are now confused, not hard I know.

Our vent is located in the side wall of the bathroom and positioned just below the sloping roof. Is yours actually on the roof above the shower head?

Steve (Endpeg) is going to put an extractor in for us but it seems to be ok where its at and in line with the chimney above. Therefore the vent will be going straight into the chimney and no need for any ductwork. There again it could be just another botched job in our apartment or have they done something right!!!!!!!

I've shown a picture on the photo section.

Hi Mike and Dawn

have you removed the bidet to get the unit in the bathroom?

Julie

hi

The vent you have in the picture is just a vent. the proper vent or fans will have a 94mm round back which fits into the wall thus the flexi ducting slips over it and is secured at the vent  it should then be connected to the fixed ducting which acts as a chimmey.

the vent in your picture is flat on the back nothing connects to this. you can buy just a vent with a round connection on the back and do away with the electric fan it is hard to see if you can get electric to yours where is situated  and the added problem of connecting the flexi ducting to existing duct/flew.

Hi Julie,

Yes we have had the bidet taken out, gives a bit more space and we got the cabinet in for extra storage.

Ian, Thanks for the response.

Hi Mike & Dawn

Hope you are both well.

Saw the photo of your cabinet in place of your bidet.  Can I just ask is it on wheels?  If not doesn't restrict the opening of the shower screen?

Sorry guys for going off thread, I am interested in this extractor in the bathroom though honest.

Hi Jackie

We're both very well and looking forward to getting a bit sun soon.

The cabinet has a fixed base but is only about 300-400mm wide so is fairly thin and not a problem for the screen which still has plenty of swing on it. We got the cabinet from Genes Nevarro.

Hi all. With reference to the pictures of the water sitting above the ceiling, I would have that checked that it isn't one of those pipes running along the ceiling void, it could be a joint seeping further along and running down onto there. Also check for drips when it is raining, or if it is consensation from the air con pipes. I wouldn't put an extractor in until I had confirmed all of this and put in proper ducting to an outside wall, don't forget you can easily get flat trunking for extraction. Cheers Andy.
