Has anyone had security grills put on their bathroom window? If so I would love to see what Polaris put in or if you've found someone out there to make some up.

Alternatively if any kind sole would like to measure the aperture for me so that I can get something made up back here in UK then there would be a pint (or cocktail of course) in it!?!

Hi RBrttH

Welcome to the forum!

Only end apartments have windows in the bathrooms and I 'm not of the end.  But I am sure there will be loads of response as there is getting quite a few DIY people who are living on the Condado now.

I have sent you a private message but as you have only posted 3 times I don't think you can pick it up just yet.  If you chat to Justin at the top when his bubble is green he might sort it out.

Just check first about what you can add to the property- that said, I know there have been odd additions to some of the pergola's- but one thing we were told (and I know everyone seems to be told something different) was that Polaris do not want grills on the windows. One of their selling points is the security they offer. We asked because of the front window on the two bed apartments and were told that they do not want the 'traditional' Spanish style grills to appear across the resort. Actually, I think they said you will not see them on any Polaris site. Is this true- I'm not sure? But, before you spend any money I'd recommend you take further advice.

I think security grills are a great idea.  We are on an end appartment and neighbours in our Jardin found PW had left our window wide open last week (our appartment is furnished) so we're really keen.  If anyone has any suggestions or knows anyone who could install these please let us know.  Thanks, Andrea & Paul

Hi All,

I got to say I have been  on a few PW sites and have never seen any security grills (they are called rejas out here).  Most local blacksmiths will make them to size and there are also quite a few British places that make them.  I have a few numbers but think you should check it out first.  They range from about 50 euro maybe less if only a small window.

Good evening.

We have friends who have bought  on Mar Menor, La Torre & Hacienda & we have not see any window grills either.

I know that some years ago some one put up sliding glass doors aound their top floor balcony.

They were profesionally made & looked good but because they had not  had planning permision from PW they were told to remove them.

By this time a residents commitee had been formed & the owners took their problem to them with the hope that they would give backing, however it was over ruled because the commitee feared that others might choose to do the same but not to such a high spec,. Needless to say  every thing had to be taken down.

We too have a window in the bathroom though we are on the first floor. However I dont think I would want a grill but its personal choice I suppose.

I agree . Do make sure you can go ahead before spending your hard earned cash.

Jan

 HELLO EVERYONE

I HAVE A PENTHOUSE PROPERTY ON JARDINES 10 AND LOOKING FROM THE BALCONY I CAN SEE THAT A LOWER APARTMENT HAS PUT A SECURITY GRILL ON THE SIDE WINDOW. IT WAS ALWAYS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT PW WERE NOT ALLOWING THESE GRILLS TO BE PUT ON ANY PROPERTIES.(OBVIOUSLY WRONG)  IF AND WHEN THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH BURGLARIES I FEEL THAT IS THE TIME WHEN INCREASED SECURITY OF PROPERTIES NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT. PERSONALLY I THINK GRILLS ARE INAPPROPRIATE AND IF THEIR IS A PROBLEM WITH SECURITY WE SHOULD BE LOOKING FOR SOLUTIONS FROM PW.

If outside is a problem I wonder if an internal fixture would be a solution.

People adding things now are obviously doing it before residents committees are set up in the hope they will be able to argue their case if necessary latter. Probably on the grounds of having spent money, but if they haven't lived under the resident committee system before they probably dont realise rigid it can be. I can see that a grill on the side window is small and potentially a good idea for a vulnerable window. I had a scan through several sites offering different Polaris properties for sale or rent and didnt see these window grills at all.

Hi All

Just to put minds at rest (I hope a little).  I have been in Spain for 8 years and although there has been burglaries on a lot of Urbanisations, it has been ones like Camposol and Villamartin, where there is no front gate security.  I have often been on PW in Mar Manor and on the La Manga and Hacienda sites (although last two not PW) and you are always challenged on foot and car registration is automatically taken.  I have not yet to date heard of any break in´s on these types of Urbanisations (although I may stand to be corrected).  Also rejas in Spain tend now to be used for decorative reasons.

Interesting comments - the forum is proving to be a great place for debate

PW do offer in their 'optional extras' sheets 'Rejas' for the bathroom window and I have ben quoted just short of 300 euros for them so there should be no reason for PW to be unhappy. 300 Euros just seems a little steep for what is essentially 2 or 3 powder coated 1 foot pieces of metal.

I have particularly purchased an end property with a bathroom window as I will want to leave the window open to avoid condensation. If I then want to go out for the day I would like to have the option of leaving that window open however as it opens inwards grills on the inside would not work. Obviously I also have a vested interest in keeping the overall environment looking as good as it can be and would not fit anything that does not compliment the property or its surrounding area.

Well thats good to know- it makes sense to have something on a side window as they are always more vulnerable. Plus of course not all the side bathroom widows are on wide open corners some are down the access passageways.
