Hi All,

Anyone who is needing an electrician to carry out work on their property can save a lot of euro's by getting in touch with either of these 2  guys rather than employ the firm who supplied your lights. I found the quote offered to me by a certain lighting supplier who charge on a per light basis was over double the price for what I got these local Brit electicians for (10 euros per hour). The guys are retired & live on Camposol and just look for one or two days work a week to help them pay golf fees etc.

Regards,

Bilbo,

Are the two electricians you mentioned legal? They are charging top rates for the work.

Jean,

Considering Ilumcon were quoting 25 euros per fan light and 15 euros per normal light, I though Andy/Jeffs prices were far from 'top rate'. Electricians are qualified and were organised through the company that supplied my beds. The wiring of the lights was something I could have been capable of doing but time constraints and the price I paid to have them fitted deemed it worthwhile to have it done. 100 euros for a 3 bed - I'll take that every time !

Regards,

Bilbo,

I understand what you are saying re prices but  I get a bit upset when I see qualified tradesmen who are fully  legal ie.  IVA registered, paying social security  and income tax being constantly undercut by other people working to top up the pension.

What amazes me is that quite often these are the same people who are outraged by people working on benefits etc etc in UK.

Jean

Hi All

I am a UK and Spanish Qualified Electrician who has worked on many apartments on Condado and I charge about €100 per 3 bed apartment and I charge €20 per hour which is under the going rate in Spain , the difference is I work alone , so if you had one of the guys you mention it should only cost you €50 at €10 per hour , why does it take them 10 hours to fit 14 lights in total !!!!!!!!!!!!! .

But I suppose you pays your money and takes your chance !!!!!!!!!!

Best Regards

Endpeg

Hi Guys,

I must admit I am with Bilbo on this one.  In my opinion if there is no difference in quality or safety etc then I would go with the lower cost and as for men working to top up their pension, I would love to know one of those at home as there is many a time when I wish I could pay a retired man to decorate or garden at rates that don't break the bank and they are allowed to earn up to certain amount per week as a top up!  As for people claimimg benefits unlawfully then I do not agree with this and would never condone such behaviour.

Lets not forget that unlike Endpeg some tradesmen do sometimes outprice themselves and leave people with no other alternative, if they can not do the work themselves.

Regards Kelly & Simon

I can't believe you are making such a fuss, the thread was from someone recommending a electrician that they knew, I don't think going into whether they pay tax etc is relevant, if you don't want to use them use a company that you know nothing about, and hope that they send out a qualified electrician, would you know what to check for in Spain! or do these Spanish companies use unskilled labour. You take the risk, I know what I would do!

Endpeg/Ayez,

Go and have a word with yourselves will you ! I think I know enough about the building game to establish the credibility and value of a tradesman ( I have project managed and contributed in many areas during the building of two homes for myself) and work in my own industry where I am a multi-discipline supervisor. For your information it is a man alone taking ten hours (two half days due to various reasons) to do the job which also includes re-positioning  where the cables come through the ceiling. If you get peeved about a couple of guys earning a bit of extra cash to supplement their pensions, I'm afraid it is time you went for a reality check back to the good old UK where we are quite happy to keep paying people benefits week after week, year after year while they sit on their arse and turn down jobs offered that will increase their income substantially in relation to the 'hardship they are suffering' on benefits.

I re-iterate, I have no qualms whatsoever in helping out those that are prepared to work an odd day or two to make their life a bit better. For all you or I know these guys may be carrying out a fully accredited buisness service anyway. It was not the first question on my priority list.

Don't suppose you folks have ever got someone in who may have retired to do a bit of gardening or decorating works then, or do they have to fully fledged multi-national corporations ?

Get real (like Andy & Kelly).

Regards,

Here here !

I totally agree with you Bilbo, the one thing that gets up the noses of the people of GB is that there are too meany people thinking they can get something for nothing!!  Anyone who is prepared to work to earn a shilling , what is the problem!!

Like Andy and Kelly said the guy was only trying to recomend someone, its up to us who we dicide to use and god knows its hard to know who to trust in this day and age!

Please don't stop recomending people on this forum and it as been a great help to me and no doubt to others too.

Well said Scapa, I'm with Billbo on this one.  If they were working on the bioler or a gas installation I may feel a bit differently, but, other than years of DIY, i am not qualified but had no problem with fitting my own lights.  The key really is if Billbo is happy with the work and price paid, then good on him for providing the rest of us with useful contact information.

Ted
