We are thinking of shipping furniture from UK to Spain (door to door). Can anyone make suggestions/recommendations re comparison of shipping or road freight and the sort of charges incurred. Looking to ship from Lancs to Benalmadena. Not a lot of furniture - from 1 bedroom apartment in UK.
Regards, Allimal

We used Britannia Cestrion - quote matched the price paid - service generally good. Not the cheapest nor the most expensive but seemed the most professional. Be careful if you have wooden furniture - three mahogany pieces that while in transit and storage that had an impression of the bubble wrap left ingrained into the surface where they had put other items on top. Guess it was the heat or something and something in the plastic seeped out. Has had to be polished out by a French polisher. Make sure you itemise everything on the manifest that you are likely to want to claim for as a result of an insurance claim to ensure it is successful.

We used Removals2Spain , based in Birmingham but they moved our goods from Devon to Mijas. They were very good and reasonable and the big plus for us they had Storage facilities in Mijas Costa which allowed us to ship over then move in to suit us .

Depends on how much you have got - we shipped a 5 bed detached house (not everything I hasten to add - left behind lounge suite and a couple of beds and things but there was a hell of a lot - 6 containers. We paid roughly 3800 I recall but this was three years ago. They did a full wrap and I have to say they were very good - one broken glass - couple of mssing items which for some reason had been shipped loose - rotary dryer and a Vax - insurance claim was met almost in full. Britannia Cestrion were not the most expensive nor were they the cheapest but I believe we had good value for our money. I know people who have had really bad experiences - masses of stuff missing - no insurance - no redress - lots of damage. Just make sure you know who you are dealing with and get all the terms and conditions in writing.

Rgds

We used Witham Brothers, who advertise on the front page of the Friday Ads.  We bought out various items in two separate consignments. the second included my Honda motorcycle which arrived without a scratch on it.

I believe that they were very reasonable, but we did all our own packing and they just collected and delivered our belongings. We did have a small claim and this was dealt with very quickly without any fuss.

Hi we moved from 2 years ago from the Midlands to Murcia and used Purias Impact, they packed all our stuff, shipped delivered and put in place at the other end, I think we paid under £2k, which we thought was excellent value for the amount of stuff we had.  The services was excellent and not a single breakage, the guys worked incredibly hard and packed our house in record time!

Have since recommended to many neighbours who have been equally happy, their fees are based on the space your items require.

Good luck!

Hi,

We have just shipped 2 sofas, 2 double beds complete with mattresses and 5 tea chest size boxes. The cost was just over £600 for a door to door service shipping from Warrington to Turre in Almeria. The service was excellent and Marc the owner is a really nice guy. The Company is: Voila De Limas

Please contact Marc on (+34) 647 006 183

I have used ** Edited - Name ** twice. They were great 3 years ago on my move to Spain and had no problems at all, however when they moved me back recently I had things missing. They blamed it on the UK side and vice versa...yet to be resolved, and they are washing their hands of the problem saying its my fault!!!! What!

I also had a dispute over how much we were to pay...I asked for the stuff to come out of storage and they said there was no lorry coming just yet so not only did I have to wait but also pay them for the time.

I think the way they have behaved and treatment of customers is disgusting...I would never use them or recommend them to friends or customers alike.

We used Brittannia (Manchester) in 2004. They charged £3000 and lost things that can't be replaced because of the sentimental value and also damaged furniture. They paid for the damaged goods (reupholstery required) but their response to the lost intems was shocking and they refused to try and find them saying they 'wouldn't know where to start'  I have commented on this previously in more detail.  Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.
