Hi All,

I'm Peter and I 've been living in spain some years now and I love to cycle for 2 or 3 hours to explore the countryside and keep fit. Just recently Ive experienced a few attacks whilst clipped into the bike and it's not a good experience as it could cause a cyclist to seriously injure him/her self. To be honest I've never been bitten yet and the attacks seem to be more when travelling through countryside villages. I would like to know what the law is if ever I was attacked or need to confront an owner.

Thanks

Peter

Ask yourself what would you do in the UK and follow the same process.

The laws on dangerous dogs and dog attacks are very similar in Spain a simple intrenet serach wil give you plenty of info eg

Slightly off thread. Whilst moving at 40 kph on the inside lane, has a cyclist the right of way to undertake you on the inside lane.

I know where this going to end up so let's keep it on thread.

Confronting a dog owner who's happy to let their dog roam the streets might not get you very far. Reporting an attack to the local police would be a better option if you think you know where the dog lives. There are so many abandoned dogs in Spain but theses dogs are never in the mood to chase or try to attack you so if you're getting chased off a dog it probably lives nearby.

Thanks for the replies and for the link. What I am going to do now is keep clear of the places where dogs are more likely to attack or be un restrained. I had an incident on Friday where a spanish hunting dog chased me from behind and all I heard was a soft swishing sound as it silently ran effortless along side me. It was kepping eye contact and feigning to go for my ankle but never made an attack. I think it knew the boundries of what it was permitted to do to a human.

I can't speak for Peter but I can easily tell a hunting dog apart, or in most cases, an ex hunting dog as these are the ones that get abandoned once they are too old to hunt or get injured. Many get lost on a hunt and the owner doesn't bother looking for them. These dogs are unchipped and don't have I'D.

AlsoAlso, they tend to be a particular breed.
