how to activate a new mobile home sim card

Hi

I have just bought a new english mobile phone online with amazon in

readiness for moving back to england permanently next month.

As I am in spain at the moment and I have a spanish address with

my debit card I could not top up online.Therefore a family member had to

buy me a top up voucher in england and sent me the code to put the  credit on

the phone.

now I can make calls  but I cannot receive any calls, I thought maybe I had to

activate my sim card number by making a calll which I did but  it still does not work.

I do not understand. I have also  looked at vodaphone online which also said to phone

17298 to activate sim card but all I get is a message in spanish which I do not understand.

Can anyone give advise please.

The only way to activate the SIM card is by calling 17298 when you are in the UK as it needs to connect to the local network.

You may be able to register online at 'My Vodafone' and get round it that way - not sure.

Why don't you just leave it in the box until you go back ?, if you do succeed in getting it to work making and receiving calls will cost a fortune.
