Hello. I am currently looking at starting a new service which will specialise in transporting disabled and less abled people to and from their required destinations

I am in the process of buying 3 specially adapted vehicles.

Will I require a taxi licence for this?.

If so, how on earth do I go about obtaining one?. I have no desire to be a "taxi" service as such.

I have spoken to my Spanish solicitor and he does not believe I would require one, because apparently coach trip companies are not required to have them

If Anyone can answer this I would appreciate it

I would ask in the ayuntamiento where you intend to operate

Unfortunately I don't have a clue as to whether or not you need a licence but maybe have a chat with Myra at Costa Advice Bureau as that is the sort of stuff she helps out with.

Let us know what you find out!

Justin

Hi..

Almost certain that a taxi licence wouldn't be enough... since presumably you will be transporting passengers on a 'hire and reward' basis, the minimum requirement would, I think be a Spanish D1 PCV licence. Taxi licences are extremely difficult to obtain anyway and normally very expensive.

I'm not certain but I don't think your UK (EU) licence, even if it has class D1 minibus cover up to 15pax, can be used legally for vocational purposes in a Spanish registered vehicle.

Special rules will apply for insurance cover and also the vehicles will be subject to annual ITV tests irrespective of their age.

You need to talk to a lawyer specialising in vehicle law, and to the Trafficos.

Thank you for your responses. The vehicles I intend to use will not be mini buses but single wheelchair types

I will send you a private message . I am a licenced taxi and have 2 minibuses. The town hall are keen to have disabled vehicles as European law is about to come into force that all Town councils have to have a % of  population of  adapted vehicles . Regional Govt is the problem. Each vehicle will have to pass special tests for adaption and for hire /reward you will need a Servicio Publico . Autocares have to have 10 vehicles to start or you buy existing company.  You could try Hire with driver VTC  min 5 new vehicles ( under 2 years old)  to start company. I explained I wanted my minibus to carry disabled people as there was no service nearby- answe  from a lawyer of regional govt  "not my problem"  I could go on but will contact you direct.
