MIDI connection problems (Music)

Hi, I'm having trouble connecting my laptop (running Sibelius 2) with my keyboard (Yamaha P85) using a new MIDI lead. I've tried just about every combination and although the MIDI out light is flashing, the computer's not recognising that there's new hardware attached.
Anyone got any ideas, please? (I'm running AVG, if that is of any use.)
