Anyone have any info on internet pay as you go? We use our house as a holiday home about 10 weeks out of the year so a contract would work out a bit pricey, Read about pay as you go dongles(?) but can't find any real info. We only use it for email & my son on Facebook so don't need anything too fancy.

Our house is in Heredades, Almoradi, Costa Blanca. Any info would be great.

Thanks

Camille, Vodafone certainly do a PAYG dongle in Spain:

Vodafone PAYG dongle

Most mobile phone shops should stock it so just need to find one local to you.

We have a holiday pad not far from you  (Formentera del Segura) and are here for the next 8 weeks.  We researched this market long and hard 18 months ago and decided to purchase iData from The Phone House.  The dongle cost about 50euros with 1GB of data which lasts for one month.  Then you can buy another GB for 20 euros.  I just recharged mine today at Carrefor in Torrevieja.  The most I have used to date in a month is 800MB and we use it for emails and some web searching (I am using it at the moment) and I have it connected 12 hous per day, every day.  Disadvantages are:

  • You can only recharge at The Phone House, but it's a large concern and I have seen them in lots of places
  • Data transfer speed is slow (compared with wifi or ethernet), but this applies to all wireless dongles
  • They use the 3G network and this can be a bit unreliable, particularly inside buildings where signal strength is low, again all dongles are effected

However, it means that we are online for as long as we want when we want for the 20 euros, within the month and of course we only buy data when we are here.  If you want to know more about it PM me.

Mike
