Hi All,

Has anyone got any recommends for sky installation Mar Menor area? I don't know for certain but other residents in our development seem to think the central aerial will be for spanish t.v. but they are not sure yet. Would like to get it installed when we are over next so any contacts would be appreciated.

Hi Candyfloss,

I own in Playa Flamenca, up the coast from Mar Menor, but if it helps, the ariel the builder puts up will normally only pick up Spanish TV.

Sometimes the builder also installs cable, but you will know that as you will have cable sockets next to your ariel sockets in your property. If cable is installed, it may take a few years for cable to be switched on in your block as it did ours.

So, we had to have a mesh ariel installed to pick up English TV and got together in a group of 4+  owners to share the installation cost and only our TV's could access the signal for a monthly charge.

This was initially done by a company called Nortons, but when TV went digital, Nortons switched us to Cina, who then installed a digi box, still using the mesh ariel I think? We pay 17€ per month and have all the Enlgish channels, plus movies, sports, etc., etc., Such a bargain compared to UK prices eh?!

I hope this helps, maybe Cina operate in your area, as we are only about 40 mins drive from you.

Kind regards,

hi janice,

no I'm not a telly addict, far from it, spend all my time on this forum LOL. But it was handy when we were over at Christmas for the kids, they were happy to stay in sometimes while we went out looking at furniture (boring for them) so if anyone out there can recommend sky in Mar Menor area Los Alcazares and surrounding would be great. Ta Ta 4 Now

If you are in a new building, the community should already be set up with an aerial to receive Spanish digital terrestrial TV. (EU law - I think all communities have to comply by 2008 or something; don't quote me on that). To receive this each property owner only needs to buy a decoder box (available in any electrical retail outlet for as little as 40 or 50 euros I think). You then have about 22 free channels in Spanish. Apparently, you can switch the language on some movie channels to English, again, don't quote me!

If you want to install SKY individually, check out the local press (CBN?) for companies offering this, BUT please remember, before installing a dish anywhere that may be visible to others in the community, check with the president or administrator what the rules of the community are regarding this.

Best way for the kids to learn Spanish is to sit them in front of the Spanish cartoons, so perhaps you should save yourself the cost of SKY and spend it on Sangria instead!

Can someone give me a rough idea what it should cost to install Sky. Our apartment is new and has communal connections for Spanish and German dishes but not Sky. Cable tubes are installed from roof to apartment already.

tinto, are you asking about a private set up or a community set up?

How odd your community doesn't have a Sky dish, are there not many Brits with properties there?

I believe for a private system you can expect to pay around 600 Euros and that includes the digibox.

Justin

Thanks Justin, yes it is a private set up why there is no communal sky i don't know because the property has not long been completed and is about 70% sold.
