TV seems to be a big subject when it comes to people moving to Spain.  It seems everyone wants to make sure they don't miss their favourite programs!

Use this forum to discuss any issues regarding TV in Spain.  Post questions or just useful comments.

Are you still paying the sky subscription?  I was thinking of upgrading to Sky+ and taking the old box.  Will that still work?

KP

Can you tell me if you are using a basic sky box and card or Sky+ box and card. If sky+ then do you have your own satellite dish or communal dish.

I have 2 sky+ boxes and cards which are registered and paid in UK (multi room) and was planning to use of the the sky+ boxes and cards when in spain however not sure if they could be used with a communal satellite dish.

Thanks

We tried using an old box from uk but didn`t work , I think it depends on make & model. we use anew pace box provided in spain which gives us the free to view channels and we take our sky+ cards which gives us same channnels as Uk just have to remember to take it home. we have a community satelite dish but had to pay someone to sort it out.

Query?  Does anyone know, if you take over a tv set and digi box receiver from England to Spain, will they work OK in Spain

I receive over 30 channels here in Spain via a digi box we pay for here, we have at least 20 English TV channels including Sky channels, movies, sports, BBC & ITV, even get premier football free of charge plus UK radio stations all for 15 euros a month, I have heard of people that have bought their sky cards over from the UK and have actually been told by sky the it is illegal to remove the card from their box in the UK and take it abroad and if they continue to do so it will be blocked !! Apparently if you bring a UK digital TV to Spain as long as you have a Spanish video recorder the tv can be tuned via the recorder. Hope this info is of some help !!

Hi, my villa is situated in Southern Costa Blanca, there are numerous companies operating all over the Costa's but it is very easy to find installers they advertise in the local free papers and the Costa Blanca News, it really depends on where you are situated, we even have a nightly television programe and radio stations which are dedicated to the local areas these also give a lot of very useful information. Your best bet is to pick up one of the freebees in your area !!

We too have Sky Plus and works superbly. Connected to the Sky Dish via the conventional aerial socket not down the phone line. Re the legality of using Sky in Spain it is in fact under the radar (forgive the pun) as far as Sky are concerned. Be careful not to use any pay per view options - they can cause problems I am told because you will have to give them the card number and then I am told you need to give a UK phone number or something. I have never tried to use it personally because I dont want to lose Sky but I have friends who have had their card cancelled. Also before investing in Sky confirm it will not contravene any community rules. Community presidents (especially Spanish) can sometimes get a bit stroppy about this if the dish is in plain view.

Regards Smiley

I had a problem with my last communication.  Do you need a T.V licence in Spain?
