 Hello all! I am looking for instructions on filling out the NIE form. Have found a couple of links on the forums, but they all seem to be dead. Is there an English version available? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi & welcome here.

I assume you've the form but, if not, here it is NIE DOWNLOAD

Here are instructions to fill it in (according to http://www.idealspain.com/pages/information/movingtospain.htm  )

HOW TO FILL IN THE N.I.E. APPLICATION FORM
1 DATOS PERSONALES means PERSONAL DETAILS

1er Apellido: Surname
2º Apellido : (second Surname) Write three chiffons instead (---)
Nombre : Christian Name (make sure to use same as in passport)
Fecha de Nacimiento: Date of birth (use two digits for day and month)
Lugar de nacimiento: Place of birth
Sexo : Gender “H” for Male (Hombre) and “M” Female (Mujer) . X cross the one applicable
Estado Civil: Status. S for single C for married. V for widow and D for divorced
País de nacimiento: Country of Birth
País de nacionalidad: Current Nationality
Nombre del padre: Father´s name
Nombre de la madre: Mother´s name
Domicilio en España: Address in Spain (if you have one, otherwise leave blank) - Localidad: Town, CP: Postcode, Provincia: Province

SECTION 2

Sign the form at the bottom, under 'firma de solicitante'.

Complete the form and take it back to the National Police station, along with a photocopy. You also need to provide your original passport and a photocopy. That's it ! You will then be told to return in approx. 4 weeks time when your number will be ready to collect. You need this number to do anything fiscal in Spain such as open a bank account [this can also be done with your passport number].

Hi Fred, Anna asked for help with NIE (EX-14) though. However, if she needs EX-16 I have given her the link above but that's for applying for Residencia, or so I understand!

 Thanks to you both :)  A little background on me...I will be moving to Spain in March with my husband. He has a British passport. Very excited about the move, and I think that this website will be a fantastic resource.

Don't know if this is any use but I used this guide : tinyurl.com/32zh5us

I found it the best as the NIE form is completely translated for you so I just printed it out, filled it in and then just copied the entries to a Spanish version when I was happy that I had done everything correctly.

Fred, I opened tinyurl.com/32zh5ust ok, clicking that link took me to http://www.myspain.es/forum/general-discussion/22161-my-spain-guide-completing-your-nie-n-i-e-application-form.html & I clicked on thumbnail.

I posted details in English of how to fill form in in my post 17 Dec 2010 10:59  though.

THIS below is what the thumbnail in  tinyurl.com/32zh5ust  has on it.

 British Expats in Spain

http://www.myspain.es

Welcome to the MySpain.es guide to completing your N.I.E application.

You will need an N.I.E (Número de Identidad de Extranjero) number to do pretty

much anything in Spain from opening a bank account, purchasing a mobile phone,

buying property or working in Spain.

Below you will find a copy of the N.I.E application form translated into English and

further guidelines to complete your N.I.E application.

The translated version has been included as just a guide to help you complete the

official Spanish version of the Ex-14 N.I.E application form.

The official application form can be downloaded from here:

http://www.mir.es/SGACAVT/modelos/extranjeria/modelos_extranje/ex_14.pdf

With the translated N.I.E application form most of the application should be quite self explanatory.

Section 1:

2

nd Surname: Leave blank if you do not have 2 surnames.

Sex:

“H” is Male (Hombre) and “M” is Female (Mujer)

Marital Status:

S = Single - C=Married V=Widow - D = Divorced

Mothers Name:

Mother’s Maiden Name

Address in Spain or place of residence:

Most people will do one of the following:

Leave blank if no address in Spain.

Estate agents or Gestor address in Spain.

Although the application form says you can enter your address in the UK if you are resident most

people leave this blank and seek advice when they submit the application.

Friend or Family address in Spain.

PC

= Post Code

Section 2:

Self Explanatory

Section 3:

3 Options:

Economic = Inheritance tax ETC

Professional = Work Related

Social = Property Purchase

Economic, Professional & Social.

Further Details of Reason (3)

You will need to place in the box the reason you are requesting an N.I.E number and make sure it’s in

Spanish!

Examples:

Compra de propiedad = Property purchase

Venta = Sale

Herencia = Inheritance

Impuestos = Tax

Trabajo = Work

Section 4:

Leave blank as if you were getting someone to fill the application in for you they would fill that

section in themselves.

Section 5:

Leave blank.

AND LASTLY MAKE SURE YOU SIGN & DATE THE APPLICATION BELOW SECTION 5!

What’s Next?

It really depends on your area in Spain but to be on the safe side.

2 photocopies of the N.I.E application.

Note:

2-3 of those also.

If applying within Spain you will have to submit the paperwork to either your local police station or

town hall depending on your area/province.

You current passport and 2 photocopiesSome areas require passport sized photos also so if you want to air on the side of caution take

The End
