voting in Spain

I know that if you get yourself on the censo electoral, expats have the right to vote in municipal and EU elections.  And I know that it is a legal requirement to register, punishable with a fine if you don't - same as in the UK.   But what I don't know is to whom this refers.  I know that you can go on the padron if you are non-resident but assume that you shouldn't be able to vote here if you are resident in the UK and registered to vote in the UK.  Is it just residents who can vote?

As explained to me many many years ago by the kind lady at our Town Hall. You can vote in local and EU elections if not resident but not national elections.

I think this is still the same. An enquiry at your local Town Hall should answer your question.

There was a drive some years ago to get ex pats to register. Many though (I think possibly illegals) were sceptical as they thought it was a way of 'checking up' on them.

A pity really. If you vote you have less reason to complain.
