Thanks Smiley, that explains the difference. I think the Banco Halifax would be better for us. If you have other information which may help, could you please send details by private message.

Regards

Hi Smiley,

When we take on our Spanish mortgage, we will need life cover. We have life cover on our UK mortgage. We will still be living in the UK, so would it be better just to increase the level of life cover we have here, or do we have to take out a policy  in Spain, seeing as the property is in Spain.

Cheers

Westport

Hi Westport best advice from me to any client is to have life cover if you have a mortgage - probably more so for Spain with the vagaries of IHT here and no spousal exemption.

If you are not going to be living in Spain on a permanent basis I would recommend doing it in the UK - its cheaper and likely to be more straightforward. If you are planning to live here in Spain then your UK policy will be invalidated in the event of a claim. An insurer will insist on being advised of the move to Spain and my belief is that most of them will cease the cover if you are no longer living in the UK - that is old information so best to check. In that instance you would need to arrange a Spanish or International policy.

Rgds

Hi Jogary,

As far as I am aware the Barclays deal is open to all (not just brokers).   It´s definately worth a call!  Not sure what LTV you are looking at but with the Halifax anything over 60% is at a rate of Euribor + 1.25 or if having an Interest Only period then that will be at Euribor + 1.35

You may consider Mortgage with Bancaja and speak to Esther in San Miguel near San Javier
