To stop itching and reduce inflammation I can reccommend the electronic thingies that are sold in Dixons at the airport and I have seen a couple of different ones in Boots this week.
When you read how they work you will be very sceptical, as we were, they are small and cylindrical with a plunger on the top. You put one end on the bite and 'click' the plunger about 10 times, this causes a piezo spark across 2 electrodes which feels like a pin prick on the skin depending on how sensitive you are. The Piezo spark is similar to an electronic cigarette lighter or the automatic ignition on a Gas Cooker.
I bet you're reading this thinking "yeah, right" but they definitely work.
