You will probably have had an email from the EOS team today giving details of a Learn Spanish course that they have made available. The link to the pdf file is - http://www.eyeonspain.com/ebooks/learnspanish/SpeedSpanish.pdf

I have had a quick look & although it is 75 pages long, it looks very easy to use.

I took Spanish O Level (too many years ago to say!) & over the past year have found myself gaining in confidence in using my limited vocabulary. There is a great sense of satisfaction when you are able to make yourself understood & the Spaniards seem to be really appreciative if you make an effort.

We had a great conversation with a very elderly Spanish lady in Vera Town, who approached us while we were admiring a particularly attractive building. Once we explained that we spoke only a little Spanish, she slowed down, simplified the words she was using & told us all about the owner, who had apparently been carted off to jail - Basically she was the town gossip!!!

Go on have a go. It really isn't as difficult as you might think.

Noreen

I hope that everybody will make the effort to learn as much Spanish as possible, with or without the EOS download, as in my opinion it is both arrogant and disrespectful to expect them to speak English. You will find that most of the Spanish people will think all the more of you for trying and they will help you as much as they can.

I have started to learn and find it fun as well as practical .

Totally agree. Spanish is a relatively easy language to learn the basics in and widely spoken throughout the world, albeit different dialects. It's also still an important business language and, in my opinion, a beautiful one too. I know many of us won't get to the stage of being fluent but as Noreen and Grumps rightly say, if you can grasp the basics, it makes it all the more enjoyable when you're over there.
