Has anybody else had any issues with their electricity connection?

When we were sent the forms by Key Mare, we indicated that we wanted the highest level of connection (9.2kw) but we have just been debited with the cost of the 5.75kw level.

I am wondering whether some sort of arbitary decision has been made to connect the 2 bed apts at this level & the duplexes at the higher level or whether it is just a mistake on the part of key mare or the electricity company.

I have emailed two people at Key Mare for an answer but given the track record of non response to emails, I thought I would try here as well.

Thanks

Noreen

Hi Noreen

We have a 2bed apartment and assume we've got the highest level of electricity as we were charged the top one (which we requested).

May be worth checking that KeyMare submitted the right info?

Thanks

I emailed Phil & Gema at Keymare & have been advised that the query has been forwarded to Maria in aftersales.

When I submitted the original authorisation for payment, I didn't have a bank account set up in Spain. Then I advised key mare of the bank details in september & asked for confirmation that this was all that they needed - No Response.

I think they haven't matched up the original authority with the updated information & have just guessed at which one we wanted.

Hopefully we will get a response.

Noreen

I wonder if it would be worth contacting the electricity company yourself if you are going out there shortly, as the chances are Key Mare won't have done anything.

At least you will know the upgrade has been done and the utility companies are quite helpful from our own experience.

Just wanted to update this thread.

Key Mare contacted me & advised that the electricity contract was set up by my solicitor & that he had chosen the connection level of 5.75kw (he never asked me!!!). KM were fully aware that I had requested the higher connection level.

Apparently, according to KM, the solicitors Martinez Echevarria have set up the electricity contracts at this level for all their clients on Thalassa. On a thread on the main forum the indication was that 5.75kw would be sufficient for a 2 bed, 2 bath apartment with air con but I don't know if it is enough for the duplexes.

Obviously the connection fee is higher for the 9.20kw connection (207 euros) but the monthly standing fee & unit price is also higher, although I don't know by how much.

We are going to be there for 10 days at xmas & will make the decision to upgrade if the electricity keeps tripping when a number of things are running at the same time.

Noreen

The problem might happen if you have the oven and the air-conditioning on at the same time .The solicitor has probably saved you money ,because if  you test it and it is does not trip .Why waste money year in year out on a higher rating. The cost to increase now is similar to the original connection charge .
I have the mid range on a 2bed 2bath.If it trips and it might not ,switch off one appliance and reset, not a problem.Although make sure you have a torch ,which is useful any how ,we had a power cut last week on our block ,just for an hour or two .Aldi have self generating wind -up torches .
We also keep large bottles of water  for water stoppages.

I agree that there is no point in wasting money paying for the higher connection if there is actually no problem.

However, if there is a problem with the electricity tripping then it needs upgrading, as I would not wish paying guests to be inconvenienced in this way.

I understand fully about guests and how difficult it might be and how you wish to make the stay as easy as possible.
