We completed 4 weeks ago and have used apt twice. There is me, my wife and 2 young children and we can just can only get just about enough hot water for 1 very shallow bath and a luke warm shower. Is anybody else having this problem, we have spoken to somebody and they said we may be able to get a bigger boiler fitted. Any ideas?

Ferreteria Lopez stock larger electrical boilers, but you will need a certified (in Spain),electrician to replace it.

Spanish law states that anyone attempting any electrical installation in a home other than their own, must carry certificates to prove that they are qualified to undertake such work. These certificates must be authenticated by the Spanish authorities, this is clearly in an attempt to safeguard not just yourself, but your neighbours, as, should there be a fire as a result of an illegal installation, a public prosecution will follow.

You may need to check that a larger boiler will fit inside the kitchen cupboard without compromising it, unless the boiler is situated outside.

Hope you can sort this problem out without too much expense,

Lorraine Braid. 12-3-07.

I recently completed on my apartment and stayed there for the first time last week.

There were three of us staying and we had the same problem.  There was only enough hot water for one decent shower. The water was then either luke warm or cold.

I were never given a choice as to the size of boiler required. I assumed it would be big enough for an apartment that sleeps 4 people - obviously it is not.

Are the boilers  the same size in all the apartments or was anybody given a choice?

If anybody has had their boiler changed could the give me a rough idea of the costs involved.

Thanks

I think we are all in the same boat with this one. We found that to get 2 decent showers you have to turn the shower off to wash your hair and then on to rinse etc. At lesast ours was boiling hot though. If there's more than 2 of you it could get very cosy.

Yes, we are all in the same boat and we have experienced this in various apartments / villas that we have rented in Spain over past years.  I thought of installing electric showers in the bathrooms but apparently the electric doesn't run in this location in the bathroom, so it can't be done.

Has anyone actually changed their Water tank/boiler?

We are out in a couple of weeks and may make look into upgrading.

Stephen

I know of someone who changed their 50Litre boiler to 75Litres (maximum size that will fit in the kitchen cupboard).
The cost was €440 for the boiler plus €180 to take the cupboard out & replace it.
It still isn't perfect but it does allow 2 simultaneous/ consecutive showers.
The installation was arranged through a resident on Residencial.
Please PM me if you want his details.
