we were told there would be a local Ikea when we bought, which there has been one opened but it is in Murcia, hardly local but only about 75 mins and quite a straight run on the new motorway. If you are using your credit card remember to take additional ID (this goes for most credit card shopping in the area and not just for the foreigners), a mistake we made. There is a more local diy store in Mojacar which is on the beach road called Lopez, it does sell most diy items but is quite pricey, if you have the time i am sure you will find items elsewhere cheaper. If you do go to Ikea, there is a diy store there called Leroy Merlin which is only 5 mins down the road and very like B & Q and also other stores in that vicinity that resemble Currys/Comet if you are looking for electrical goods all items far cheaper than the local shop Lopez. There are several supermarkets very close but as with most things you will be doing you will need your car as its a bit of a trek otherwise, this is quite reasonably priced and sells plenty of items you will find in UK supermarkets.
