question- to buy new or ship for 2nd home on Hacienda Alamo

We are hoping to conclude on a 2 bed house and wondered what peoples experience was relating to furniture, is it a major trip to ikea, 2nd hand nearby or ship stuff from UK home.  would like to hear peolples thoughts and if you did ship who did you use and if you bought 2nd hand was it from any good markets nearby

we bought an apartment 18 months ago, and furnished using Ikea, local companies and a furniture pack from a company in Mazarron. Unless you have items that you must bring over from UK, I'd recommend furnishing from Spain, its all part of the fun !

Horses for courses as they say, if your funiture is really expensive and new then it may be worth shipping it over if not then there are plenty of places over here to buy it from.

I suppose it also depends on your plans in the medium term as if you move to Spain completely in the medium term you could end up with 2 of everything,

Shipping things over from the UK is not a cheap thing to do but many people find it worthwhile.

I know this doesn't give a definitive answer but that's bacause in my oppionion there isn't one everybody's circumstances and furniture will be different so just go with your gut feeling.

there are great shops over here for furniture. Hiper Sofa is very reasonable, and they install everything. We used them and would throughly recommend them.

I have lived in Spain for a few years.  There is a huge variety in regards to shops but I can tell you good quality high end furniture costs a fortune in comparison to the UK.  Shipping from the UK is expensive but is only worth it depending on what you want to buy.  I shipped over a bespoke kitchen island unit as this was far cheaper to buy in the UK.  I used the website Shipley and it cost 250 and was delivered in the week straight to my door and was a two man job. 

I shipped over a inflatable spa which weighed 40kg with royal mail parcel force and it took 48 hours and cost 38. 

Oak furniture land in the UK will ship orders to Spain.The more you buy the better cost of shipping.  Same with DFS but they now have a store in San Javier.  

IKEA you can order online a lot of products and they will deliver for approx 55 euros. You can get sofas and beds for a good price. Use Google translate. There are also companies who will collect your furniture but they charge a small fortune. 

Laura Ashley - Spain, their closest store is  Barcelona but they are online.  Costs vary as depends on what you buy. The furniture costs way more than in the UK so wait for their online sale.

Westwing - this is a Spanish online store.  It's basically the Spanish version of Achica in the UK. They do high end stuff at a discount price, you can get great deals on here. They will deliver. Use Google translate.

San Javier has some good shops offering budget to higher end pieces so they have something for everyone. Bear in mind that Spain does have sales like UK shops or bargain with them for a discount, Spaniards do not mind this at all. They will deliver for a fee or for free if you buy a lot or again bargain with them.

Nauru Garden Centre Mazarron - has some nice bits of shabby chic furniture and garden furniture.  They are expensive but do have sales.  Will deliver for free.

Le Roy Merlin- I got a kitchen from them and they will deliver for a fee or you can pick up your order. This store is like B and Q. They employ staff that speak English if you need it. You can also order some products online. Also they do good sales at times.

You can get furniture packs from a lot of  retailers in Spain. These are not my thing so can't comment on these but you will find plenty.

Casagratis in San Javier, near Dos Mares oftern have some good bargains

Local spanish shop Hnos Navarrio, on the same road as Polaris Mar Menor

Flatpaxia will buy and assmble your IKEA furniture, good company

We found that buying here in Spain was ldeally suited to our needs. Lots of different shops and styles of furniture and soft furnishings. One really helpful aspect is that many places will sell the item you like off the shop floor rather the case often in the UK where you have to wait 6 - 8 weeks. This is great if you are put here trying to get things arranged for your new home and only have limited time. Lots of decent second hand sites but this really depends on what you are after. We are just about ready to sell some high quality, pristine condition dining room furniture so I will be looking at the best site to advertise the items on.
