I am out for half term week and havnt been out since last summer for one reason and another. I will be trying the new restaurant out a night or two during my stay, I wondered if there are any other highly recommended venues to try that would suit young children also???

Thanks in anticipation of a reply.

Be prepared for an expensive night at the restaurant at Condado - we were 54 euros for two courses and a bottle of wine and I can only say that for what we had (artichoke, prawn and something else gratin followed by ravioli and gnochi) and I can only say it was OK and certainly not worth 54 euros.  If you have a Polaris card then it will cost much less.

We also went to the restauant on Camposol sector A.  They do a dinner menu for 12.50 euros which includes starter, main and desert as well as a drink and coffee.  Starters were great, pork escalope with mushrooms was nice but they need a lesson in making chips!  but at 12.50 euros it was good.  Unfortunately this restaurant on a Saturday night was dead.  We were the only two in the restaurant until just before we were leaving when another couple came in.

If you want to go a bit further some of the restaurants at Bolneuevo are good and you could take the kids across to the beach to play

Hi

La Caverna is about a 10 minute drive and is quite popular. It's done out in the theme of a cave. The staff can hardly speak a word of English which adds to the fun.

I agree with Phil.  We have been to Caverna on a couple of occasions.  It would certainly keep the kids occupied by looking for all the bats and spiders hidden in the walls (not real ones I might add)  The food is mainly barbequed and the bread with the garlic and tomato is fabulous.  If the kids are old enough they might well enjoy doing the honours (you will get a demo on what to do!)

We were over CDA at the weekend & ate for the first time in the restaurant, and I wasnt impressed at all. I had the garlic lamb cutlets which were just covered in garlic oil (I know they were "Garlic" but too much), along with the potato that came with tons of garlic. No vegetables came with it either. Someone else had the chicken which was dry & needed something to liven it up. The offer of garlic oil which my dish was swimming in wasnt taken up!

Will be good to hear of any local restaurants that people have tried & tested as its difficult with children to know where to go!

Many thanks

Carla

We have had a good few meals in the restaurant on site but we haven't eaten there since new years eve.

Our other recommendations are:-

La Caverna - great for meat dishes

Antipodus in La Azhoia (Australian Bar) - great for menu del dia and with fantastic views over the sea

Avenida in Puerto Mazarron - great food all day long

Gateway to India in Camposol Sector A

Hotel Mariposa - great menu del dia in lovely surroundings

Hope these help

La Caverna - how do you get there?

Where are the other restaurants mentioned - always looking for something different and still trying to get the lie of the land as we only come out about 4 or 5 times a year.

Hi Liz

La Caverna - Head North from Condado up to the roundabout on the motorway, don't go on the motorway but straight over and head towards the village of Los Ventorillos where you will find it on the right hand side.

Antipodus - Go towards Puerto Mazarron, just before you reach the small shopping area and Lidl turn left at the roundabout and head towards Cartagena then follow the road to Isla Plana after another couple of roundabouts. Go through Isla Plana and into La Azhoia. The restaraunt is all the way through La Azhoia as far as you can go, you will pass a small jetty and see it through a couple of little side streets. You can park next to the jetty and walk to it in a couple of minutes from here.

Avineda - Can be found down in Peurto Mazarron, from the underground parking lot walk along by the beach and you can find it amongst many others, There are alot of British resteraunts down here serving your typical carverys & pies but Avineda sells lovely Spanish Tapas.

Gateway to India - As mentioned, can be found in Campasol A, we think this Indian is very good and is the best one local to Condado.

Hotel Mariposa - Exceptional views of the Spanish countryside & hills can be found here which is through Alhama & up in the Espuna, Go through Alhama and head out onto the Mula road, You will find it just after you pass the village of Gebas. The Hotel is run by Mark who is English and also does quad biking, walks, mountain biking etc

Hope this helps

A couple of more restaurants that are great for families that we have eaten at many times are:

Palenque/Pizarron 2 (in the Port)

Good selection of meat with Argentine steaks cooked on the barbacoa.  Also doubles as an Italian pizza restaurant (probably one of the best in the area) with a large variety of pizza’s cooked to order, salads, pasta dishes and burgers.  Menu in Spanish and English.  A popular eating place all year round with Spanish and English alike.  Tables outside and in.  Very casual ambience and friendly place.   This used to be our children’s favourite restaurant until they discovered the Wok Buffet!

Go past El Arbol supermarket in the Port, through the lights and round the bend and past the Hong Kong on your right.  Palenque/Pizzarron 2 is just round the corner on the right (there are 3 pizza restaurants in a row).

Gran Mundo Chinese Restuarant and Wok Buffet

Probably the longest established Chinese Restaurant in the Port.  It also now offers a Wok Buffet service which is fantastic value for money, large choice of dishes.  Always busy.  Wok Buffet 9.90 Euros adult and 8 Euros child.  Wine and drinks very reasonable.  Ideal for kids as they can help themselves and try different things.

Follow directions for Pizzarron 2 and Gran Mundo is on the left hand side opposite the

Mariano's Restaurant

Good selection of tapas at lunchtime and also Menu del Dia.  Spanish speaking but menu is loosely translated into English.  In the evening the nicely furnished restaurant has an A la Carte Menu and Menu del Noche which is great value at 12 Euros per head for 3 courses including a drink and coffee.  Good selection of drinks and wine.

Mariano’s can be found at Camposol.  Follow signs for A Sector, keeping to the main road the restaurant is on the left just next to the Camposol Business Centre.

El Saladillo

El Saladillo has “Dancing with Horses” Sunday lunchtimes.  Traditional flamenco show combining flamenco dancers and beautiful horses that literally dance!  Set menu – booking essential.  Two sittings. Just pop into the restaurant to make a booking.

Come off at the Camposol turnoff and take the turning for A Sector.  Carry on past Mariano’s and past the garden centre.  El Saladillo is on the left just opposite the tiny white church.

Hope this helps.

The Caverna also specialise in salads.  I know this is not very exciting and have personnally no experience of them but they do say this is one of their specialises.

I think I have found the La Caverna restaurant when I was taking the children to horseriding yesterday.  On the right just before Los Venterillos but as it was pouring with rain and mega cold I didn't get out to see if there was a menu at the entrance so would still be interested in knowing a little more about the type of food and prices.

Many thanks

Hello ,

I have been using the where to eat guide on the Simply Networking web site. It maybe in there. I've found it to be helpful. You can search by town or food type for murcia. If you go into the Where to go first section and then on the left of the page is a button with an image of a knife , folk and plate. click that and your in.

Hope this helps
