Car Hire San Javier Airport

Just back from Condado at weekend.Word of warning for people heading re car hire.I have always booked with Auriga Crown and have had excellent rates, little time to wait to pick up car  and had good service from Staff.I booked this time by mistake through Carjet who placed my booking with Gold Car.

Wait at airport for picking up car was awful,rate was ok 80 euros for 9 days but they really rip you off with fuel charge ,80 euros and you must return car empty.I did a lot of driving and can confirm that car was filled with 48 euros of fuel.

Auriga Crown give you option to return empty or full.I always return tank full as it gives you best value for money.

Another thing to think about when hiring cars is to get insurance over the internet for the year to cover you for Glass,no excess and wheel,tyre undercarriage damage. The cost of this is £49.00  through insurance 4 carhire com (no spaces and . com) for anyone who is going to out more than once it probably still works out cheaper just for a two week holiday!

Just back from CdA, and have always used Auriga Crown.  However like everyone else they are trying to sqeeze more money out of their customers.

Their latest trick.  "Would you like to take out our insurance for glass, wheel damage etc etc.  To be honest cannot remember if this was 3 or 9 Euro's per DAY.

If you do not take out their insurance for ANY REASON then they rquest a refundable deposit of 300 Euro's.

Have yet to find out if others at the airport are also doing this.

Is this something new.  I have used them a number of times in the past, last time in Feb and have  never taken out any additional insurance and never been asked for a deposit?

Yes its new.  I also use them frequently last time at Xmas.  There was also a letter written into the local paper about them doing this, so looks to have started very recently.

We always use economy car hire to book usually with Auriga crown. we take out the insurance for tyres etc with economy and have neverbeen charged a deposit.

Just spoken to Economy car hire and they have told me that since January 09 Auriga Crown have started to tak a 300 euro authorisation on everyones credit card if you donot take out their additional insurance as stated in the other postings.

The reason, I have been told is two-fold, firstly to push their additional insurance and secondly to ensure that hirers look after the vehicle better, as they have had some damage on vehicles recently.

I suspect the first reason is the most valid.

They will take this authorisation even if you have proof of insurance from another company.

Tom at Economy says they are geting loads of complaints about this and he suspects the other hire companies  will soon follow suit. He is passing all the complaints to Auriga Crown and hopes they may reconsider, but don't hold your breath.....

I picked up a hire car from Auriga on Wed 11th March and they mentioned this new rule to me but said that as I had booked before the new rules came in (March 1st I think he said) that I didn't have to pay it on this occasion but to be aware of it for future bookings.  It is only a deposit so you should get this back.   I have often pointed out scratches and marks to them when I pick up the car and they always say its ok but with this new rule I am going to be insisting that they mark any existing scratches/bumps etc on the paperwork before I leave the carpark.

Its still cheap car hire (for now)

The Auriga Crown website implies that it is only certain types of car/ models that they take this on ?

in September 2008 We hired a belingo, and a kia carnival in Feb 09 and it was payable in both cases.
