BANK CHARGES HELP PLEASE

Hi

I have spoken with my bank which is the Halifax and they inform me that a charge of £9.00 is payable every time I want to put money into my spanish bank account to pay bills mortgage etc over the internet £19.00 over the phone. Does anyone have an english bank account that either does not charge or charges less than the Halifax or knows a way around this.

Do you have an account with Halifax España? Transfers between the two Halifaxes are free or at least they used to be.

I believe Barclays do a similar scheme between their UK and Spanish branches.

It may also be worth enquiring at Alliance and Leicester (or was it Abbey) re transfers to Santander since they were taken over.

Their are branches of Halifax and Barclays near Mercadona in the port. Santander is in Mazarron town.

How is Sheffield nowadays?  We are due to go back for a week late April. I still read the Star online. How sad is that!

Sheffield is the same as ever except they keep changing the road lay out whats new. The weather is cold but dry aprt from that same old same old. Where abouts in Sheffield are you from?

We are from Stocksbridge but early retired out here four years ago. We live in the campo about 10 mins from Condado. Cannot imagine living anywhere else now.

We only go back to Sheffield for the annual family visit and cannot believe how rushed and busy everywhere is. Just driving out of the airport onto the M1 is a culture shock as there is so much traffic.

I would recommend getting an account with Cajamar, and then feeding it from the UK via a monthly transfer with Currencies Direct

No charges at either end. Other benefits include

Currencies Direct allow you to vary the monthly amount (just give them a decent notice period)  

Cajamar has an excellent online banking facility

They do not charge for transferring money online (Barclays charged me 3+euros for a simple inter bank transfer)  

There is no annual/quarterly/monthly maintenance fee (Barclays charge me 80euros per annum)

The only reason I am forced to use Barclays is because I have a mortgage with them - otherwise I'd close my account loke a shot
