Hi Stonephil
From Ptan's post earlier on this thread, the only difference between the 30 euro and the 400 euro charge is that for 400 euros you get a digital receiver from PW and 30 euros you have to provide your own. The channels received are the same whichever you choose.

Just wondered if anyone has taken out their own tv? we were planning on bringing our own flatscreen digital tv over from uk as we have previously spoken to someone elsewhere in spain who had done this.
Would be interested to hear if anyone else has done same and whether this will be worthwhile. Also wondered if our own arial connection will work in Condado or do we have to purchase one in spain?

Hi all,
What do you need to connect your Sky box to the Polaris system. I am assuming you need to take a cable with connectors already fitted? I am over in February and will give it a go with my Freeview Sky card.

For those taking out there own SKY box - This info is for La Torre but I assume will also apply at CdA. ( when the connection is available of course )
These instructions assume you have already connected your box to the coax wall socket in your property
Press the services button on your remote control, this should bring up the services menu
Press the No 4 button (System setup)
Then without delaying between presses, select the following in quick order, 0, 1 & then the SELECT button, (This will bring up another service menu, it is important you only follow the instruction below and do not select any other buttons or change settings other than instructed below)
Press 2 (Default transponder)
On the screen you should see Frequency.
Using the remote control, Key in the following numbers 12207
All other settings on this screen should read,
Polarisation V
Symbol rate(MBaud) 27.5
FEC 2/3
Using the blue arrow down button scroll down to SAVE NEW SETTINGS at the bottom of the screen, now press the SELECT button.
Now select "NEW INSTALLATION" and press the SELECT button, press the SELECT button again on the next screen and again on the screen on the screen after that.
You will see a Channel line-up complete message after minute or so. Now press the SELECT button again
You should now have a working Sky Digibox

Ptan, Thanks for this really detailed info,
I have now taken an old skybox out with me, so will try this set-up procedure next time out, by which time we will be hopefully all connected up on Condado.
Bought a TV on the last day of our trip last week (OKI 32" LCD) - Instructions only in Spanish!! Thought I would be able to download some, but apparently it is a model for the Spanish market only. Hopefully I will have better luck with the on-screen menu - an English option should exist within I would think!!. Did not get time to set it up last week.
Anybody else bought an OKI TV?......if see I am keen to see if it is ok & easy to set-up
Thanks again.
Skell

Skell,
I boughrt a 32 LCD OKI last November, and it works great. The terrestrial channels are all Spanish, the digital ones show the odd english programme, esp channel 17 on my model.
My instructions were also in English - bought it in Carefour in Cartegena for 399 euros incase its the same model.
hope this helps

I bought an OKI 19" from Carrefour for Euro179 on News Years Eve. Insutructions were only in spanish, but I plugged it in, pressed a few buttons, selected English as the language and it worked a treat.. picked up all the terrestial channels (Spanish) and also the Digital ones which includes 1 English channel (can't rember the number but it was a Sony channel). Dead easy - so can't imagine you having any problems.
Don't think I've ever read any of my manuals for TV or DVD PLayer at home; I'm probably missing out on loads of features but if it works when I switch it on, I'm happy!
Cheers

A lot of the Spanish TV channels show 'dubbed' English/American programs. We have found that it is sometimes possible to remove the dubbing and watch the program in its original English (American) language. Not sure if this is just a feature of our TV (Philips 32") or of the Spanish digital system. But, it works a lot of the time - able to watch Los Simpsons and quite a few films (pirates of carribean, something with Sean Connery in) + during the mornings and early afternoons, loads of kids programs.
Like you Russ... I'm not one for reading TV setup instructions. Just discovered this by pressing buttons.

yes it will work but they are on offer in the main shopping centre in cartagena from as little as 330 euros for a 32 inch lcd flat screen.btw the lower definition gets more channels which is weird.

Hi Phil (ptan)
Just as a practise I tried changing the setting on the Sky box I intent to take to condado (Amstrad drx550). I followed the instructions just as you said and all go fine until at the end it says new line up completed, so I press the select button again but a message comes up saying connect the phone line or phone sky to authorise the change, when I press select again it goes back to the TV but the new setup hasn’t been done as the new numbers you give haven’t changed. Any idea? Also can I ask the reason for making this change?
Regards
Phil

From my understanding when the box is turned on it has to be able to connect to it's default transponder to fully boot and get the EPG. The astra satellite transmits on a number of transponder channels and some signals are stronger in different parts of Spain. For the costa calida 12207 provides a stronger signal, as I say this info came from La Torra where PW changed something in the comms center and everyones SKY boxes stopped working, to get them back they had to change the default transponder by following these instructions.
See http://www.ltgr.es/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=29&Itemid=2 for the original acticle. looking at other forums people have posted back saying that thier SKY connection was restored after following this, no mention of having to Ring SKY?
Must admit I haven't tried it myself, will do next week.
Phil

Just back, visted call centre and was told television is now fully installed and ready to go, they are awaiting signing of final contracts with providers of the signals and then it will be switched on for the complex. I was told it should go live within the next week or so. There is a large aray of satelite receivers directly behind the sales/call centre, visible if you take a walk along the golf course.

At CdA now, until the 7th, digital TV ok, but no Satellite signal . Went to customer services yesterday and was told that they now had a definate date for the satellite feed.......April ! Ho Hum. Will go again tomorrow to see if someone on the week shift gives the same answer.

Went back to customer services a couple of times and spoke to different people, and yep got different answers. The majority opinion is that all the infrastructure is in place and that the satellite feed should be available within the next week or so.
I've tried my box out there and there is a weak signal on 11778 but not enough to get a lock on, or then again it could be noise but I don't think so as I only get it on that frequency not any others. So you never know perhaps it will be available soon, will try again next month.
