Hi All

My boyfriends parents have just brought a place at the HR, they are in phase 1 and are now fully completed i just have a few questions about the HR and the area surrounding it if anyone could help:

We are quite a young couple late 20's and would hopefully be looking to go out for food and a few drinks in the evening.. is there anything near that we could get a taxi to and back.. i know there are shuttle buses to and from other PW resorts and just wondered if anyone knew what the otehr resorts were like in terms of completion. Does anyone know how far the La Manga (think i have that right) is and is this where people would recommend going for an evening out? Is there somewhere to get a taxi from, if anyone knows how much and how long would it take to get to the La Manga?

We will be hiring a car from the airport so will be able to get out and about are there any suggested day trips that anyone has been on?

Is the pool full with water now? when his parent went over in may the pool was not full with water.

My other half and my dad would like to play a few rounds of golf while out there.. is this possible? also can you hire clubs as my dad is left handed and would need to hire his.

Is the supermarket open on site now.. and is there a pub open?

Finally how is the weather over there at the moment?? I imagine it will be pretty hot when we come out (hopefully)

Thanks in advance for anyone that replies.. i know i have asked a lot of questions but am one of these people who likes to be prepared!!!

Thanks

Laura

Hi Laura,
I hope you enjoy your stay on HR. It is a nice resort but was a little quiet when we were over min May. There is a shop and bar open on the resort now, they are only temp jobs but the shop is quite good. The bar was not open when we were over so I cannot comment on how good it is. The other resorts that we visited were Mar Menor and La Torre. Both are completed now and have good resturants and Bars and both were quite busy for May. The resturant on La Torre is very good but you should be aware that Polaris Resorts are a little more expensive than other resturants and bars that you might visit. Some of the pools are open now and you can use any of the open ones on the resort or indeed on any othe resort. The course is open now from what I can gather, not sure if you can hire clubs on HR but you can hire them on the other resorts which you can also play. It should not be a problem getting a game of golf in and there is an offer on at the min for a round after 5 in the eve I think for 30 euro if I am not mistaken. there are a few resturants in the nearest town Sucina but this is a small town, from what I hear the food is quite nice. You can take a train from Balsicas to Murcia, Balsicas is about 5 to 10 km away but Murcia is deff worth a visit, it is a large city with lots of shops etc, you could also drive there if you wish. I do not know anything about getting to La Manga or taxis as we had our own car and young kids with us. It is a lovely place to go for a relaxing break but you most likely wont get much nightlife around. We haven't had much time to explore the surrounding area as of yet but hope to do so next time we are over. If you go onto the thread Todays Activity and ask Lennie he will be able to fill you in on a lot more than me as he is living on HR and is very helpful indeed and his posts are very informative. Hope this has been of some help to you.
Kevin.

Hi Laura,

Head to the coast, Los Alcazares has some lovely places to eat, drink and chill out by the sea, very nice and not too far. All along the coast from Cartegena up to Alicante has some great spots to expolre if you have a car. The N-332 runs along the coast.

Murcia city is beautiful, but DO NOT drive there unless you are a very experienced driver (on the right). I have driven in some hellish places (Bosnia, Poland, Greece, Iraq) but nothing quite prepares you for the mental Spanish, especially the very young and very old lol. Once you are used to it, its not so bad, but jus be prepared if it's your first time! If the car you are driving is pinged as a hire car its even worse!

Don't be put off though, just be careful and enjoy............

Ken.

Laura

Get the free bus over to La Torre for something to eat try Bamboo which has entertaiment on after your meal. There may be other things on you'll need to check. There is a small pub open on Hacienda behind the shop, also open. If you are on a budget drink bottles of Estrelle lager they are 2.5 euro and its good gear, otherwise it's 4 euro a pint.

The Hacienda course is open, dont know about about club hire.

Weather was 31 degrees at the weekend but it wasn't humid so it was very enjoyable. Especially with a breeze.

There are a few pools open and will be within walking distance of you.

You should have a nice relaxing stay.

Hi Laura

We are also on Phase one, but will be back home by the time you get there, but can vouch for Lennie's expertise.

We have driven to La Manga and I estimate it should take about 40 minutes and, if my memory hasn't quite gone yet, I think there is only about 15 minutes' drive between La Manga and Cartagena.   If you know the back road to La Torre from Riquelme, there is a restaurant just underneath the C3319 flyover where you would take the slip road to La Torre, which we used on our final night...just to stay fairly local....and it was quite entertaining and quite peculiar really.   The food was quite basic, but this was reflected in the price, but they had a cabaret and then the restaurant was sectioned off while some sort of ceremony took place...then it was back to the cabaret again when we watched the locals dancing.
It isn't somewhere to go on a continual basis, but just something different.   They also sell hams, cheese, bread etc...problem is I can't remember the name of it but will put it on this site once we get back home again on 27th June.    In the main shopping areas of Murcia and Cartagena where the huge Carrefours are you will see the 'Wok' restaurants where you can eat all you like really cheaply.   Just keep an eye on the times as I think they close late afternoon until about 8 in the evening.

If money is no object then La Torre does have lots of choice of places to eat and drink.

Linda
