POLL: Will you spend Christmas in Spain?
Wednesday, December 7, 2016 @ 10:33 AM

Although over 5 million Britons will be spending Christmas abroad this year, many will be going back to the UK to be with their families and friends or taking a holiday elsewhere. Although Spain at Christmas is very different to the UK most shouldn’t have any trouble finding their traditional British Xmas goodies to help them through the festive period; mince pies, Christmas pudding, turkey, stuffing, crackers and so on, are now readily available in most expat regions of Spain. So for those who can’t make it back or have decided to stay in Spain for the holidays it should make it that much easier to satisfy the Christmas cravings.

Spain certainly doesn’t feel as festive as the UK at this time of year so to get into the spirit seems to be a little harder over here I find. So it wouldn’t surprise me if most of you went home. Spain just isn’t as Christmassy as Britain, call it commercial or what you want, but it doesn’t feel the same.
Do you feel the need to go home at this time of year? Or do you wait for cheaper flights and spend Christmas in Spain? It would be interesting to know how many members actually spend Christmas in Spain and how many have that uncontrollable necessity to go back and be with the family or bring the family out to Spain!

Admittedly we have no family to go back to see - but Spain is my home - so we will be happily staying here.

Very happy to have Christmas in Spain away from the commercial travesty it has turned into in the UK.

We live in Iceland, rent out our house most part of the year but spend ALWAYS the Christmas in Spain. All our family (childs, grandchilds) are in Norway, UK or in Orihuela, Spain - so nothing to do at Christmas in Iceland for us.

Have a nice Christmas time !

Iceland/Spain

I agree, the use of the term 'home' for the uk isn't right. Home is here in Spain where Christmas still means Christmas and not panic buying for one day and getting up at 4am for the sales on Boxing Day.

I think the writer yearns for Britain and his/her childhood memories of Christmas past. Don't we all. The difference with most of us is we have sadly all grown up.
