POLL- Would you launch a nuclear retaliation if you were Prime Minister?
Friday, July 29, 2016 @ 2:55 PM

During the Trident debate in the House of Commons, new Prime Minister Theresa May was asked whether she was "personally prepared to authorise a nuclear strike that could kill 100,000 innocent men, women and children."

May’s answer was an unequivocal "yes," arguing that the whole point of having a nuclear deterrent was displaying a willingness to use it. In this she was contrasting herself to Jeremy Corbyn, who has previously said that he would never launch a nuclear strike.

Having control of a country's nuclear weapons is arguably the most solemn responsibility any Prime Minister has.

Would you press the button in retaliation?  Please leave a comment.....

I would. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. In fact I would press the button first.

I really don't think we need nuclear weapons any more. The world would be a safer place if they were all dismantled. Imagine what we could have done with all of the money we spent on nuclear weapons over the years. Today we have a lot of smart weapons that can be used more effectively against any potential enemies, and the need for nuclear weapons has really passed.

The whole point of MAD is that everyone has to be able and WILLING to retaliate in the event of a nuclear strike, thus ensuring that such a strike will never happen.

I would like Healthyannie to tell me what the 'smart weapons' are which can be used in such an event 'more effectively'. Cruise is too slow and vulnerable for instance. I imagine we do not envisage a situation where WE would strike first.

If we have the technology to make nuclear weapons then we must also have the technology to defend against them.

The most disgusting comment I have ever eared from a politician was from Paddy Ashdown (Ex Major, Royal Marines) on Question time, say “I can not envisage any situation when I would take another humans life.”

Paddy Ashdown has form. He once, some years ago, on question time said that the electorate are wrong.

Nuclear weapons are of mass destruction.

All Nuclear weapons are based in Scotland with the capacity to kill up to 320 million people..

Now that's disgusting killing innocent people just like us who have done no wrong and don't want any part of mass killings .
It's not the innocent people we should be targeting it should be the government's.

How many of you know on here that there's been 5 category B incidents involving trident that's one step down from a disaster.

One at Faslane .

2 at Davenport.

1 in the middle of the Med .

1 off the coast of Norway..

In 2014 the renewal of trident was £100 billion .

It's now sits over £200 billion oh what we could do with that money .
NHS . Caring for our elderly.. education..
Housing and even the introduction of jobs .
