POLL: Football Fans! Who deserves the Ballon'd'Or?
01 December 2015 @ 10:02

For those who don’t know, this award is given annually to the player who is thought to be the best in the world. This award is often confused with the now defunct Ballon d'Or European Footballer of the year which was awarded from 1956 until 2009. Since 2004 the voting process is based on a shortlist of 35 players produced by FIFA, from which team captains, national team managers and select journalists vote for the winner.

In 2010, the FIFA player of the year award was merged with the Ballon d'Or, and now the award is called the FIFA Ballon d'Or. Compare this list to the player of the year according to World Soccer magazine, and also the female player of the year.

Combining the FIFA Ballon d'Or (years 2010+) and FIFA World Player of the Year awards (1991 to 2009), Lionel Messi has won the award four times, with other players having won it three times: Cristiano Ronaldo, Zidane and Ronaldo.

The nominees for the 2015 FIFA Ballon d'Or are (in alphabetical order): Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal/Real Madrid), Lionel Messi (Argentina/FC Barcelona) and Neymar (Brazil/FC Barcelona).

The winner will be presented at the FIFA Ballon d'Or award ceremony at the Kongresshaus in Zurich on 11 January 2016.

Who do you think deserves it? Cast your vote….

For all the accolades (rightly so) that Messi receives I am sure that even the great man himself will add his team mate who appears to be at all things good,to be amongst the nominees. Xavi was the master in the midfield but time has caught up with him. The player I am referring to is Andreas Iniesta. Much of all the good work goes through him and his vision is excellent.
