Hi all

We have received  a speeding fine in the post today from Spain. The date of the fine is 28/11/2009, the problem is we were not in Spain in November.  The car that is in the picture is the Car we hired in December , it looks like the Car Hire company have given our details to people who send out fines.  How can we solve this problem????

Please help

Thanks

Geraldine & Niall Kinsella

The problem with speeding fines here is that they go up in you don't pay them within a certain time, so what you now owe could be more than you think.

You can pay it online through the DGT (Direccion General de Trafico) website.  This link should take you to the screen you need and it should appear in English and you can then pay it there.  Where it says "Record number" this is the expediente number at the top right of the fine.

Let me know if you need any assistance with it.

Justin

I think Justin has misread your post.

Being ex Traffic police in the UK there are a number of ways to sort this out.  DO NOT sit there and do nothing.

You can copy and send the the following documents as proof you were not in Spain on this date.

1. Hire agreement if you have it, if not then any emails you have for your booking.

2. Flight booking confirmation can also show that you were not in Spain at the time and date.

3. Anyother documentation to prove you were not there.

Hope this can help you.  Don't panic.

Hi

Thanks for the replies.  I have got it sorted out now, I cotacted the phone number on the speeding fine and explained to them that we were not in Spain in November.  They confirmed that they had made a mistake as they looked at a copy of the contract that they had received from the car hire company and they saw that the date on contract did not match fine date.  They asked that I send a fax to them and they would rectify it.

Thanks

Geraldine
