As far as I'm aware, Spain is one of the few countries that has no TV licence fee. Probably because Spanish TV is rubbish and nobody would pay it!

there is no tv lisence requirement in spain, for terrestrial, cable, sky or adsltv.

the public tv services (mainly TVE and a few locals) are partially funded by the gvmt via tax revenue, and at the moment advertioing. however, advetrising on tve will be reduced to zero in the next few year, and these channels will become fully gvmt supported. the theroy being that this allows more advertising revenue to be spent on the private tv channels.

Rachel, if you already have a Sky box and subscription in the UK, and you will have a UK address/bank account you can continue to use for it, your best bet may be to bring the box and card with you. You will need to get a bigger dish (size will depend on where you will be located, but can be anything up to 1.5m, which can be a pain to install), but otherwise it will work OK. The alternatives are getting a whole new system over here (and maybe paying over the odds for it) or getting on a re-broadcasting system, which may be unreliable. There have been various discussions about this elsewhere, but for any more detailed info, satandpcguy is your man!
